blocking email on Hotmail.com

For some reason I cannot find instructions for doing this.

I have Microsoft XP and know I have done this in the past.

Now somehow, I just can't find my way through the process.

Please help. Thanks

Go to Optionsin the upper right hand corner and then choose More options from the drop down menu.

Then under Junk Mail, choose Safe and Blocked Members...and then Blocked Senders and go from there.

As an aside, this is the stickler of most mail programs.
Providing a list of blocked senders is an exercise in futility for new senders.

Why not have a "Safe, excude Everyone Else" option. This is because these mail providers cater to the Ad people who would complain.

I know some seniors who only have 10 or more people they communicate with ever. They tell people by word of mouth their mail address. They could include these names in a Safe list.

3rd party programs can do this, but why should we need to.?

Do you mean block all his emails? There should be the option in Outlook Express to do this. In Windows Mail you go to "Tools" on your email window, scroll down to "Junk Email Options", find "Blocked Senders" and "Add", then add his email.

Many thanks are extended to hoehum for this explanation about GW posts and reply emails. hoehum posted this information on the WS Exchange in early January, 2005. Ive met several newbies who did not understand what was meant by YOUR EMAIL IS BLOCKED and didnt know what to do about it. Thought it would help if I explained it here. ****What does "YOUR EMAIL IS BLOCKED" mean? * A trader who starts a new thread sets it up so that all the posts are emailed directly to the trader. This makes it easy to respond simply by opening his email and using the reply button to contact the poster. When your email is blocked, the trader receives this message: "PLEASE NOTE: The member responding to your post has chosen not to reveal his or her email address. Therefore, you cannot reply to this message via email." If the trader hits reply, the message will be returned as undeliverable. ++++What can you DO about it? 1. At the top and bottom of every forum page is a clickable link to "MEMBER SERVICES". Click it. 2. From the menu, choose "Edit Your Page and Preferences" (for security, you may be asked to log in again) 3. Scroll past the blue and green sections to the pink/orange section -=-If no boxes are checked, no one can contact you. -=-If only the 1st box is checked, your email is BLOCKED. We can contact you only by emailing you from your page. (Usually we can reply after you reply to us but not always.) -=-If the 1st AND 2nd boxes are checked, your email is no longer blocked. ====I WANT my email blocked AND I want to be able to TRADE or SASE 1. I think there are a few email services that operate the way I believe you'd like. Bluebottle.com is one. PrivacyHarbor.com is another.

The latter has something they call "SnapGuard." When someone signs up for the service (which has free and premium options), ALL new main will end up in SnapGuard. The user chooses whether to accept or discard the individual emails or, thirdly, to mark them as Spam. Once you accept an email (address), that person's emails go directly into your inbox from then on. If you discard it, the individual email is discarded, but the next email from that person will again end up in SnapGuard until it (the person's email address) is either Accepted or marked as Spam. Once a message is marked Spam, that sender's emails are automatically sent to the spam folder and marked as 'read' so you will never be bothered with them again.

And from Bluebottle's site: Bluebottle Spam-Free Email is easy to use. When Bluebottle receives a message from an email address or domain not on your "Allowed" list, it emails the sender a "verification request". This asks the sender to verify themselves by clicking on a link. Once verified, the system automatically adds the sender's email address to your "Allowed" list and the message is sent through. Future messages are automatically let through until you remove the senders email address from your "Allowed" list.

These two services -- and there are surely others -- work by being suspicious of everyone's emails coming to you and only allowing through to your inbox the ones you specifically designate as safe. :-)
