Miele Induction 30 inch

Ran into a Miele rep during one of my forays at the appliance store. He said that it should be on the market before December. Can't wait to get rid of my gas cooktop. Although I will miss my copper pans.

Btw...can you put an induction cooktop above a built-in electric oven?

As long as there is enough room for some circulation and insulation. Heat is the enemy of electronics--so the electric stove's heat would have to be insulated from the induction cooktop. The best way to know for sure is to check with Miele. Every manufacturer has their own peculiar rules. And these rules need to be adhered to if you want your warranty to be valid.

I agree. I do know that some induction units are somewhat sensitive to heat. I have seen in a appliance magazine an induction unit over the top of a gaggenau built-in oven but I do realize that some of those pictures are sets.

The main differences in the cooktops (besides price) are (1) Wolf has a control layout that I prefer--I like the touchpad on the side, (2) texture vs. slick top, and (3) timers on the Miele actually turn off burners, but not on the Wolf. I only know that from excessive shopping, not actual use. And I know less about ovens, but I wouldn't feel compelled to get matching brands unless the separate units were both what you wanted. Half off sounds nice...But it's OK to go half Wolf and half Miele unless they look really bad together.

It's not particular to Miele, or any particular model. If you're actually using it as a work space, rather than just as a place to set stuff down, you should lock the unit so that the controls won't be upset if you cover them up, or have a pool of water, or sense a knife or something and think it was a cooking vessel (which would only matter if you accidentally turned on the element in question). I haven't checked your model's manual for how you enter and exit child lock, but the most common thing is that you hold your finger (or palm if your fingers aren't warm enough) on the power switch for five seconds. Very easy. You don't want to do anything that will nick the glass, however, because scratches can develop into cracks. It would be worthwhile if you want to use the area on a daily basis to chop on, put potentially scratchy things on (like a cooling rack with metal feet), etc., to have either a cutting board, or maybe a Formica topped piece of Masonite, that fits over the unit when you're using it for counterspace. If you're just using it for mixing bowls, ingredients, etc., and there's nothing scratchy/nicky or metal involved, and if the controls don't beep at you for being covered, you don't really need to put it in lock mode. AVOID MIELE RANGES. UNRELIABLE UNITS. TERRIBLE SERVICE. We've had Miele dishwashers for literally decades; they have been great, trouble-free performers. Not so the 36" gas range that we bought for a kitchen reno in 2016. The design is nice and the basic functionality is great, but the reliability is the absolute pits. MIele released this line of products before they were ready for prime time. And Miele knows it. We have had burners replaced several times for ignition failures. Last time around the technician replaced all six burners with "upgrades" (I'm guessing, redesigns that cure the faults of the original burners). The little part that detects when the oven door is closed and shuts off the broiler if it's open? It melted when the (extremely hot) broiler was on for more than a few minutes. The rubber feet for the grates constantly disintegrate; we've gone through literally a dozen of them. And now that our unit is out of warranty, Miele wants $32 each for replacements (and there are no aftermarket parts available anywhere). The latest problem is the oven door latch mechanism, which has failed so that the unit will not go into self-clean mode. Making matters worse, Miele's service operation was gutted during the pandemic and has not recovered. Their call center is offshore somewhere, and the people are clueless about the products. As for the technician dispatch in NJ ... don't get me started. Totally dysfunctional. The techs themselves are highly competent ... when you can actually get someone to come. Constant scheduling screwups, technicians not being told what parts to bring, several week lead times, etc. Their service is beyond unacceptable for a premium-priced brand. And we have yet to find a third-party repair service that will work on Miele ranges (dishwashers yes, ranges no). I'm sorely tempted to throw the thing out and go with Blue Star or Wolf. AVOID.

Also keep in mind that you are introducing a source of heat under the induction cooktop. Heat and electronics do not play well together. It is possible that you may shorten the life of the cooktop if you are not careful about the choice you make. This is probably why manufacturers insist upon using like products in this configuration. They may have ways to expel the heat with their own equipment. If I were designing something like this venting would be a priority in my remodel. It would probably involve small fans that had access to cool air to introduce into the cavity for the cooktop and possibly one to expel the warmer air. Preferably outside, however outside the cavity into the kitchen area is preferable than trying to cool with hot air. I believe keeping the electronics cool is key to a long useful life for appliances. Especially ones that produce heat.

HI,
We are in the final stages of kitchen redo. One of my concerns is replacing an electric cooktop with an induction which requires 50 amps. I believe I have 40 or more amps now. This is going on an island over a slab. Has anyone dealt with this wiring dilema and have you been able to have it rewired?

I recommend that you check the specific oven and cooktop vendors. I'm putting in a Fagor induction over a F&P oven. Both have a relatively low height and the cooktop ventilation space is 2". Some cooktops may have an optional thermal shield. I considered a GE ZET1, but it is "higher" and an induction unit is specifically not approved. See page 7 at the link.

Thanks for the link. I hope to have a gen contractor out this week to check the electrical. I am moving the oven down two feet and hope that works as well. Also installing a warming drawer in the island.

Are you sure the Miele induction cooktop will be available in 30"? In Canada it's only available in 36". I would have prefered the smaller version but couldn't get it.

The price in Canada is around $4K. With that you get as a promotion a set of 4 Henckel pots and 3 Henckel knifes.

I specifically ask for a 30 inch. They had a 36 inch diamond shaped Gaggenau and a few other modular piece. I think Gagg has a 15 as well. I guess I could put two of those together as well. I wonder if the new 30 inch will detect pan size...that would be nice. Anyway, we shall see.

So how do you like your 36 inch cooktop?

No mention of price but at the rate the dollar is falling it will probably be around $50,000.haha

I know the 30" version is available in Europe as it's the standard size for the generally smaller kitchens over there. I was told that this one will not be distributed on the North American market as it's considered an upscale product here and the vast majority of upscale kitchen owners are looking for 36" models. On the German Miele homepage there are 11 induction models, all of them detect pan size "TopfgrÃ¶ssenerkennung"

I almost bought the AEG as that one is definitely available in 30". In the end Miele won out as with its special promotion it ended up being the better deal. And my kitchen is big enough to handle the larger cooking space.

We ordered the Miele induction cooktop last December and finally dropped it into the granit cutout a couple of days ago. It's still not installed and by the rate our reno is going I'd be lucky if I can cook Christmas dinner on it.

That is a great looking cooktop!!! I'm jealous

Just imagine how easy that is going to be to clean. Cleaning my Wolf is really a task. No to mention everything is burnt on..

Does your cooktop have boil over detection? I think that is absolutely brilliant.

whimper. A 30" cooktop is my absolute size limit. I'm really hoping that Miele does the 30 in the US - particularly if it's a great looking as yours Beatrix!
