Owbist, to answer most of your questions, it might help you to know I only learned what I had to for my job: high-school teacher, then promptly forgot what I'd learned b/c we were never required to use it. Besides, all I had to do was ask a student if I had a problem. They were WAY ahead of me. I used a Mac in those days b/c I sponsored the school literary magazine, and it was supposed to have better graphics. That's what the kids said, anyway, and since they did the layout, I went along. The only other teacher who stuck w/ Mac was the yearbook sponsor. I'm not sure what his reasons were, but he was a lot more adamant about demanding to keep his Mac. Now, years later, it amazes me that our school accommodated us. When I started trying to install the AIO, I was using my SIL's computer, an ATHLON. He'd just abandoned it here, and I thought it must be better than my HP 515X. But it kept telling me things couldn't be done b/c I didn't have enough "virtual memory," so I went back to the HP. Hi everyone, I know i sound like a tape recorder but my craftsman 1/2 hp has been working fine for 3 yrs. Not sure what happened to the remotes, but they stopped working. I first tried replacing the batteries but after that didnt work i went out and brought two brand new up to date chamberlain klik3u universal garage remotes. Retail 40 bucks per. They say in the manual they are compatible to my garage opener which was manufactured in 1997. They wont program as well. My garage opens and closes fine. I guess im here to find out if anyone has any other trouble shooting facts to program because the "press the red button like a door bell, hit the button you want programmed" basics isnt working for me. I called chamberlain about the remotes and they basically told me go jump in a lake, all our remotes program fast and easy!!! I need help ppl. Plzzzzz

The typical symptom of a bad rev-counter board is,,,, the door moves towards the closed position for about 6 inches, then reverses and comes back to it's starting point. Thats the little board about the size of a postage stamp. If you put all the washers that come in the kit onto the motor shaft before you put the locking collar on, then the black interupter cup will not penetrate the IR sensor far enough on the rev-counter board. There should be one "thin washer" and the cup shaped washer with the spring washer in between them. No other washers should be installed. Check to see what you have, because its possible that the board is ok, just a problem with the installation of the washers under the black plastic interupter cup. By the way, 5 flashes means,,,"Possible RPM sensor failure/motor overheated"

sdello -- Let's get one thing perfectly clear. Neither I nor my husband had anything to do with the improper installation of the sensors. We did not install the sensors, nor did we ask that the sensors be installed in such a way as to defeat the safety purpose for which they were designed. That is all on the shoulders of the two guys that installed the new garage door opener. When I saw they'd be installed that way, I asked what the heck was going on, and the lead guy claimed that this was the only way they could be installed because (he claimed) there "wasn't enough room" on one side of the door to install the sensor there. In actuality, there WAS AND STILL IS enough room at that spot. That's where the sensor for the opener that was being replaced had been installed. I think the guy was afraid a "daddy longlegs" might come out from behind something and crawl across his hand.
