Thanks all, I went back to the owbist provided link and see it is a series of video clips and looking at more than the first one I get the "big" or "multiple" picture. I do not have any current plan to use multiple monitors, I was just looking for a monitor for use with my Notebook, which has a 15" display, and my wife's new Netbook which has a 10.1" display. The monitor I am considering mostly on a price/availability (can see hands on at local BJs) has a Display Link feature. It also has the unusual design to sit on the desktop, not up on a stand.. which it claims is best suited my application. Figured the Display Link is just a plus... not sure if it requires more video muscle in my computers over what is required for a VGA. The Display Link software does seem to also offer optimization of the computer/monitor interface. A plus, I think. I got a reject on my post for some reason, so I added "again" to the subject to see if I can get through.

Hi Susan, I would go with a widescreen. Widescreen is the future(which is now).Yes they do take up a little more space (width)but it's not much. The upside of widescreen is you can have 2 windows or webpages open side by side and be more productive.Granted widescreen is a little more expensive ,about $30 or $40 more then a"standard" monitor but it's worth the little extra money. Most people consider a 19"monitor the new standard size whether it'widescreen or standard.You can get a 19",20",or 22"widescreen for $209,$233,and $289 respectively. Hope this helps ya. I finally got a chance to hook up to a different monitor as suggested and the lines do NOT show on the other monitor. I was also asked if I often open and close the laptop and the answer is no, since it is a desktop replacement it sits in the same position nearly all the time. Also - without closing the lid - I left the laptop to defrag overnight and this a.m. when I came to the computer - now I have 3 lines....one red, one blue and one yellow - all vertical from top to bottom of the monitor. Any other suggestions? - Elaine
