Clarification please--anti virus programs

I have Avast (paid version), Evonsoft Computer Repair, malware byts, PC Pitstop, and PC Matic. Today, Avast stopped a trojan virus so I thought I would run couple of programs to clean things up. Is PC Matic worth paying for? Found several things, but could not repair unless I bought the program--$49.00 per year. Is it worth it?

Went thru the postings before posting here, am looking for a program that will find any more virus--or do I have enough.

OH YEs, Thank you so much for whoever posted the program about geting your pictures organized. Hubby really loves it. think it is call Piazza or something like that.

One anti-virus program per machine or you will run into problems. ie. Avast, AVG, Norton AV, McAffee etc.
You can have as many spyware programs on your computer as you want ie. Malwarebytes, SpywareBlaster, SuperAntiSpyware (all free editions)just to name a few

I don't know much/anything about exploits, or how to design a buffer overflow that takes advantage of a venerability in a specific viewer/indexer/thumbnail generater/whatever but I would guess that it would have less chance of making contact with its target if you only viewed it in the browser? Perhaps if downloaded to the Desktop, or a "Downloads" folder, it might get indexed, or a thumbnail generated, and in the process, the payload containing meta data read in producing an overflow that would write the "data" into an executable area of memory where it would possibly be executed. Perhaps that would NOT occur if confined to the cache directory, and memory? But I'm just guessing, sorry. Personally, I download images all the time. But I keep my software up to date, and assume the odds of running into a zero-day are much too low seriously worry about. BTW, if you use Google, there are extensions, such as this one that allow you to right-click an image and select "Search Image on Google". I like to collect scenics from http://nik.bot.nu/browse.html, which I won't link because it scrapes 4chan, so in addition to beautiful high resolution scenics, there's a lot of garbage to wade through, sometimes even porn.

Raven, in a previous thread the OP claimed that he/she was using Windows XP and that this same computer did not have Internet Explorer on it. I was unable to get clarification on this point, nor was I able to find out if this same computer has been upgraded to Service Pack 3 or if it is receiving regular Windows Updates. I suspect that it has NOT been upgraded and is NOT receiving updates. I would love to be proven wrong on all these points if only the OP would provide the info. Perhaps you can get the OP to answer. If in fact it turns out that I am correct, then Raven I humbly submit that your laudable efforts to help the OP are being ignored in whole or in part. SP3 was released over 4 years ago, and if this computer doesn't have it and the updates that followed then the OP has left it wide open to numerous security flaws. Even if I am wrong about SP3 and the updates, I am not filled with confidence when I read that the OP got rid of funmoods by saying "Actually I have no problem with Funmoods, I deleted it from my control panel when it first popped up and haven't seen it since." This says to me that either the OP really has no idea what he/she is doing, or that the OP is totally unable/unwilling to communicate what he/she did do. I will read with interest how this comedy of errors continues to play out. I think the OP needs to do much more than just ask for help over the Internet. Ok - FYI, we may have folks here who don't know that it is illegal to send plants or plant materials into California (unless there's proper inspection and certificates). There can be fines for the SENDER "The importation or smuggling into California of live plants and plant product, or unapproved, uninspected, or uncertified wild or domesticated animals, whether as pets or livestock, will have serious legal and financial consequences for the persons involved. I read different news sources with different political leaning including some from francophone countries. That's not about "trust" but rather awareness of what people are being told. My basic orientation is toward math and science, but I'm cautious. Some goverments censor data. In places with limited medical resources and/or populations that are already challenged, cause of death may not be identified accurately or at all. Case maps are probably not entirely accurate, but they're good enough for trend analysis.

I would get rid of the PC Matic.
I would definitely have and use malwarebytes, superantispyware, spywareblaster.
If you need links to any of those please ask here instead of trying to find them there are some fakes that sound alike.
Avast is fine for your Antivirus

I am sorry, I do realize that I can only use one anti virus program, guess I meant I am looking for a good spyware program. My fingers are faster than my brain. Should I get rid of PC Pitstop etc. ?

If you are paying for it, dont renew. Download, install, update Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Spywareblaster (all free editions) Malware and Superanti complement each other. What one wont find, the other will. Spywareblaster runs in the background and stops nasties from initially loading. You must update Spywareblaster on a weekly basis to get the new signatures. Malware/Superanti must only be updated before using them ie every couple of weeks

I have used the free PC Pitstop for years. It was a great program but a succession of "improvements" seem to have removed a lot of the advantages in my opinion. While buying computer parts I was offered the $39 program for free and took it, based on what I felt it did I would not be paying money for it. PC Matic seems to belong to PC Pistop.

Never heard of Evensoft till your post. Cnet has offered this (amongst hordes of other sites of course) and in 14 months has had a mere 17,527 downloads with user rating 3 out of 5. Hardly a hit in my mind. It also cleans the registry which you should not be doing, registry cleaners are bad business unless the person knows what they are doing.

How to download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware application for Windows computers do the FULL scans rather than the quick one, update and run scan weekly

SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition
update and run scan weekly or so

SpywareBlaster
no scans to do just open program weekly hit the update button get updates then hit the enable all protection button to turn the shield green, close.

add WOT to your browsers get the version for which ever browser you are using.
