Right loosing administrative rights to those (2) areas indicates a virus may still be present, even though the pop ups are gone this is common with certain virus what it does is changes the windows registry an places restrictions on these 2 items. Your best bet as suggested is to go to a spyware forum & post a hijack this log, in that log you will more then likely see the 2 (06) entries that confirm the restrictions---no need to reinstall the operating system for this.

Dar, It does sound like a corrupt application after a virus attack. I have only recently started to recommend REVO Uninstaller as I have had time to use it under various conditions. In your situation, if I were attempting to remedy the concern I would download and install REVO. Then I would reboot into Safe Mode using REVO to remove American Greeting application. A fresh reinstall of AG should hopefully resolve the concern. DA

AVG has a removal tool just to remove their programs I would suggest first trying that.
