I get same thing, Vista IE9
have to stop the script to get past the links

Perhaps it has something to do with the script ending tag text that has been showing on the main page

I know someone mentioned that the other day wondering what it was, and I looked but I'm not seeing it, don't know if I'm not not looking in the right place....

Same here running windows 7 and IE9 and have to wait until stop script comes up and hit it to get in. Also does the same on my kindle fire when accessing from there with a message of some sort have to say yes to get in. Mary

I think it is I just posted more info on my original thread about those strange characters.
I am now unable to use any of the clickable links at the top of the main page on ANY GW forum. Including the create new post, they are not clickable at all. Plus I could not even post back on my original thread, I am having to use a different linux and konqueror browser.
I have the problem using linux and firefox, windows 7 and firefox. My Android tablet and phone are not affected and I do not see the characters with them.

So if you use the contact us button let them know what windows you are using and what browser and version.

Thank you Raven. I'm afraid to leave, go back to your original mention of the script and look - I've left this thread open in a tab all day to avoid the delay in coming back to it:) And find it will refresh without problems. I did open a second tab and report as you suggested though.

(My 'close script' button doesn't appear for a couple of minutes - I know a couple of minutes doesn't sound that significant, but it's a long time to look at a screen and wait when you consider how many of the gardening forums I will usually visit each morning, sometimes again in afternoon...)

I sent several screenshots to Tamara so hopefully they might help.
I even disabled my ad block add on in my firefox just in case that had something to do with it but nothing changed other than I saw all the ads.

Try this...When you open GW to the Computer Help Forum..instead of a normal click on the thread to open it, try right clicking on the thread and select Open..

Interesting tip genes, and it does work. I don't know if it would have worked yesterday, but as of yesterday afternoon my problem, and I think that of others, seems resolved. I haven't seen the long-running script message today and forums seem to be opening normally -
If I ever experience it again I'll certainly try the right click and see if that saves the second step, some time.

I am not having the problem.

I still cannot normal click or left click to open a thread..I still have to right click and select Open

Same here.. some script still handing. Mostly I'm CTRL + click.

Try this it is working for some. At the top of the browser to the right of the address bar there is a blue item that looks like a torn piece of paper, put the cursor over it and read, left click on it.
I have not seen the torn paper thing, but I don't have the script error.
Tamara suggested trying that, so if you do see that give it a try.

Ohh .. I dont see the torn paper icon, but gardenweb.com added to the IE compatability view list.. seems to work now. Finally.

Why are some webpages blank or incorrectly displayed in Internet Explorer?
select compatibility mode for directions.

for firefox users that are using adblock plus and easylist (update your list) if you are still having problems you can also use one of the add ons that block scripts like no script or Yesscript, they can help you to easily block certain javascript.

and while you are blocking if you want to go all out and block flash too then this one will do that

Someone posted about YesScript on a number of other GW forums. It works like a charm!
