Can you please tell me why 'Splashables' are worth their price?

hi all - we had planned to put splashables in both of our bathrooms and had no idea the price involved. of course everything has been ridiculously expensive but for some reason these just stand out in the absurd category. when i look for similiar things at bed bath beyond, etc. they don't look nearly as well made or useful. what are your experiences, thoughts...are they 'worth it' to you?

Huh? What is a "splashable", and why would I want one? It sounds like something you own when you have toddlers and are going through potty-training! :)

I have a love hate relationship with the speed oven. It is wonderful to have a real half sized oven that will cook like a regular oven.. There are only two of us so we use this 90% of the time. We have a full size oven below the speed oven. Unless you have a huge family I can't see why you'd need a double oven plus a speed oven. The manual for the speed oven sucks big time but the oven works well. It is a normal oven, a normal microwave, a convection oven, a broiler and a few others plus it can combine some functions like microwave and convection. That said I remodeled an apartment for my daughter and bought her a much less expensive Kitchenaide version of the speed oven ANd it has a great manual, is easy to use and does most of what the speed oven does. On another topic I would never buy stainless steel again. White is so much easier to keep clean. And I bought a French door fridge that cost a lot more than a regular two door and doesn't hold as much. When you remodel you get a lot of pressure to choose the more expensive options. I don't need to impress anyone so id be fine with white and a normal fridge. I do LOVE my induction cooktop and my quiet Meile dishwasher and the new front loading washer and dryer really do clean well, use lots less water and dries a full load in 35 minutes. I dont like the front loading washer but am still impressed.

I feel your pain Beth! I am currently in the middle of removing the carpeting in our foyer (yeah..they carpeted the whole darn foyer for some reason!), as well as stripping layers of paint off of our staircase, landings and upstairs hallway. It seems like a never-ending job, and believe me, more than one time I've thought about throwing in the towel (or sander!) and just repainting all that danged wood. But then I think twice, and I look at all the pictures of other people's wood floors and steps that they've refinished, and I know that I just need to be patient.....one day someone will look at MY pictures too for inspiration! I think you might be discouraged because you went from a very functional and pretty (although carpeted.....) staircase to now having kind of a mess on your hands, with no end in sight. It's like one of the many projects that I myself start (with good intentions!) and then think, omg why did I ever start this? It seemed like a much better idea BEFORE I ripped all this up! Sometimes it's just hard to see the finish line. Keep the faith! Your home is beautiful and your staircase will be gorgeous too!

Franke1962: Beautiful sink! I am looking for a sink as well. I looked up the specs on Orca, it is pretty deep front to back, over 18", please tell me if you feel like you are too far away from the water faucet. Is it a comfortable reach? One more question: how much granite is there between the edge of the sink and the edge of the overhang? I am trying to figure out if I can reach my water faucet. Also, how far is the faucet from the sink? I just looked at the picture again and the faucet is mounted on the 'smaller' side. Would you still be able to reach it if it were mounted on the larger portion of the bowl? Thanks.

I'm not sure of the exact terms you should be looking for. But you can ask if the stain and finish are done in the same step. Older or more quality furniture is stained and then a finish is applied in a separate step. So the finish can get scratched, but the scratches aren't as noticeable. Lots of modern furniture gets finished with a product that has both the stain and the finish in it. Scratch the finish; scratch the stain. So scratches show up in the wood's natural color. Or, the finish coat is very, very thin, and the finish itself isn't very durable, so scratches easily get down past the stain layer and show up easily. Different finishes have different qualities. You have to consider your needs and what will be happening to the furniture. Are you more concerned with scratches or water rings, for example. Beantown, after choking on my coffee while looking at these items a few months ago I've been wondering the same thing. Are they rust proof? Guaranteed to outlast earthquakes, hurricanes and nuclear holocausts? Do they cure the common cold while you shower? I was almost tempted to get one just to find out. Maybe a "houseboy" comes with the order.

Yikes! Are they solid silver for that price? I checked out your link. I don't have one, but for my kitchen sink, I got a stainless sponge holder that suctions on the sink from BB&B for something like $1.99. I'd definitely think over that pricey purchase.

They are well made. They do look very good in real life. If you have your heart set on them, shop around the web for a good price.

You can get cheaper stuff that probably is just as functional. And you can also get shower baskets that are even more expensive. I know that's hard to believe.

Good ones are expensive. Check out Sam Heath (I think that is the name) if you really want to toss your lunch. They are really well made and there is a weight difference between these and the cheap stuff. They don't rust and also don't flex when you put really heavy bottles of shampoo or body wash in them.

Yikes! Certainly not 'worth it'. I would only pay that much for two reasons
- Made from precious metal
- Exquisite design, detail, unique, gives a back rub

Alas, it is neither :(

I've bought these types of baksets at Bed Bath and Beyond, and, once, at Target. They all promised to be rustproof. And they all eventually rusted. Grrr. So I'd be very tempted by any product that really and truly promises it won't rust (or pit) on me.

But what a goofy name! Sounds like a swim diaper!
