Does anyone know how to stop that ad from appearing at the bottom of the screen? It is so intrusive!

Add block and easy list. I have that software installed so at the top of that intrusive add it gives me an option to block it. I blocked it with one click.

Google ADD BLOCK PLUS, then Google easy list.

Using Z's ABP and referenced option to block is a little difficult to see. It is a small extension on the top right half of the annoying ad. It looks like a file tab and says Block on it. Just click on the tab. In the appearing window select the button to add to the filter. Close our browser and reopen it. The ad should be gone.

I got rid of it, but it looks like they've found new ways to sneak things past AdBlock. Grrrrr!

It will take the addition of only one or two more ads before this site becomes completely unusable. Sad, but not surprising. I'm not going to bother with any adblockers...I'll just leave when the time comes.

If you are using Firefox with Adblock and Easylist filters, you can get rid of the ad. There is a small extension on the top right half of the ad, similar to a file tab, and says Block on it. In addition to Adblock Plus (using firefox browser), I have the flashblock add-on installed. So those pesky banners appearing at the bottom are at least blocked so I can't view them ( still have to close them to get all my screen space back).

With Chrome and AdBlock, a box popped up with a slider to use to clear the ad, and then a button to press "Block It". It worked!

Since Garden Web is FREE so I understand the need for ads. It's that, charge a fee(we went through that before), or shut the site down. If I don't want them then I block them. They still get there money, and I don't have to look at them.

on mine I like to never found the block tab on the darn thing, it is right at the edge of the yellow center part at the top, usually it is down at the end.
But adblock plus wins again!

Yes you did DA, I was composing a message for another board and checked over here. Yours was similar to what I was composing and I merged the two. Hope you don't mind, I was trying to make it as clear as possible. There are some very frustrated people on GW today.

I did not open the ad, and I saw a CLOSE and a small x.

Clicked that and just got the same thing back.

RC mentioned the "yellow center part."

Finally a light came on in my pea-brain and I clicked on the ad, and found that tiny word: Block.

Of course you can voice your displeasure as it is your right. However, I again have to say this place isn't free. The owners do not just run it out of the goodness of their heart. The entire Internet has evolved into a commerce driven entity. If there was no way to pay the bills, including the use of ads, and turn a profit the Internet would revert to its 1990s stage, and perhaps even farther.

We have been subject here to ad campaigns before, including flash ads similar to the one today, in time they are readily skirted for user convenience.

Hmm... I did hit the block when I first saw it but then it kept the blank banner there and I'd have to close it each time. I tried putting it on the list but I think I need to go to the other thread about meebo and relearn how to add it to the list. Geez..

no just click on the little tab that pops up and says block once you click that a box comes up with the info on that ad click to add that filter and the ad will go away.

You do have to have adblock plus with the easylist subscription on your firefox

Is there any way to get rid of the gray banner left after blocking the ads? I've tried everything I can think of (which admittedly isn't very technologically advanced)! I have to click on the Close each time.

If you have ABP installed and the filter updated, the instructions on this thread are all that you need to follow. I just came onto the site and I have no ad or its remnants.

I looked at the page code.. its gone in IE
It was too big. Maybe they looked at the pages that monster was on.

I'd rather pay $15 a year like we did at one time and not have the ads

It was there this morning on IE. It was tacked at the very bottom of the page below the Instructions "that people never look at." It is gone now however.

Apparently there was such an uproar that they pulled the ad and the gray banner is now gone. I am happy to learn about ad blocking for other sites I use, though. Thanks, all.
