I am trying to decide between several appliances for a new kitchen. I was going to go with the dual fuel Wolf range 48inch, but then started seeing things about DCS and Blue Star(which is all gas! Any opinions on cooking with a gas oven?). I was going with the Sub-Zero and then discovered the Liebherr. What about dishwashers? Bosch,Asko,GeMonogram, etc. I would like some comparison opinions on all these appliances. Thanks in advance for your help and advice. Or, if you have a better choice than the ones listed that would be interesting to know as well.

I love my Miele DW.
Look at the all gas Wolf range, too. I am really happy with my 48" AG Wolf.
I have a SZ, and I like that, too!

Which resort ? That can make a huge diff. too $1.5m at Keystone or Big Sky is high cotton. 1.5m in Deer Valley or Aspen is low rent / slummin it, so that detail matters, and influences what "other people" might at purchase time. If you are living there a significant portion of the year - get what you want and are comfortable spending on. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to game the market for resale. Even the professionals can't and won't give you a pat answer on what to put in there for that. Besides, it's almost a certainty that you will not recoup the xtra spend on luxury appliances / finishes now when you go to sell in 3,5, 10 years. They may make it easier for you to sell faster though. The main draw is that you stack the odds in your favor to not have to replace stuff during ownership AND you'll get greater satisfaction of use and ownership now. As a sheer financial play, it makes little sense.

Very late to the party on this one, but... I have a kitchen full of Miele products (induction stove, oven, steam oven and dishwasher)...all great except the induction stove (KM5773). Since installation we have had the issue of the stove shutting off during operation. At first it happened only occasionally (every month or so) and was of course inconvenient when cooking dinner. However, the frequency of this issue has increased dramatically; happening every few days a few months back and now happening every. "Resetting the touch controls" as outlined on page 18 of the User Guide usually worked (~70%) with a trip to the basement to flip the breaker usually working the rest of the time, so this was more of a nuisance than anything. And my general thoughts at the time were that it's embarrassing for Miele to have designed such a high end stove top that costs $3000 be prone to a ridiculous DESIGN AND ENGINEERING FLAW. However, over the past several months we have had instances in which we could not even reset the stove...ruining meals, plans, experiences, etc. The capper was when my wife hired some chefs to come and cook for eight of us for a birthday celebration. A night half ruined when only some of the dishes were already finished. I'm appalled by the reliability of this unit. From the posts online, I'm of the mind that this is NOT isolated to just me and that Miele should consider a product recall...or at least a solution. I'm at wit's end with more ruinous experiences when I should be enjoying the not inexpensive equipment. Note -- Miele has a website with very positive reviews of their products...all suspiciously submitted on either September 5th or 6th of 2012. I've submitted the above review twice to no avail. For me, appliances was the highest importance in the kitchen after layout. I wanted control and flexibility and peformance from all of my appliances. Definitely function over form. I would suggest that you look at how you plan to use the equipment and how the features can help you cook better and your family's enjoyment of food and eating more pleasurable. That being said, I also bargain hunted majorly and sometimes a good deal on ebay or something would force the choice. Yur mileage may vary. Cooktops - 36in induction. Shortlist = Miele or Gaggenau. Bought Gagg display model induction on ebay. Single gas woktop - Miele or gaggenau. Bought Gagg on closeout. Really wanted one gas burner with high BTU for wok cooking etc. Refrigerator - Wanted Dual compressor. And a lot of control on the produce bins. We eat a lot of varieties of vegetables and I wanted to be able to control the moisture levels and the temperature. Decided on 30in counterdepth all fridge by Miele. Counterdepth keeps things visible and avoid science experiments in the fridge. Also liked Liebherr and the SZ with the glass door. Separate Freezer drawer by SZ. I wanted a bit of counter next to the fridge as a landing zone and went with a freezer drawer. Microwave - Preferred a good quality separate unit on a shelf as this is the appliance that is used most and often needs replacement before others. Panasonic with invertor. Warming drawer - Preferred one with low temps for bread proofing and moisture control to keep crisp foods warm and crisp. GE profile warming drawer from CL (The manual and functions are identical to Monogram) Ovens - I am never going to cook a massive turkey. But really wanted a steam convection. Went with 24in Gagg Combi steam and 27in Gagg convection. Dishwasher - Miele La Perla on closeout. Wanted the better drying that the models that automatically open the door provide. Also a smaller single second dishwahser by Fisher Paykel. Hood - Wanted a really high CFM that is not too loud. Cook a lot of "fragrant" ethnic food and have cooks with hearing issues. Abakka roof mounted 1600 CFM blower with the quiet kit. The hood has baffles that can be popped off and tossed into the dishwasher.

My appliances (DCS, Thermador, Miele, Kitchenaid) are 17 years old. Still work, but makes no sense to be locked into their dimensions for a complete remodel. LA area - my local high end appliance store gave me the name of a company that buys used appliances. Haven't called them yet. I will also be checking with the closest Habitat Restore donation center to see if they are interested and if they would come pick them up. If none of those work, I'll just let the GC remove and dispose whatever way he wants.

I'm a custom home builder with 20 years experience in the business, so here are my observations:

1) Refrigerators - SubZero (esp. the 736 fully integrated, OR the new Miele refrigerators coming out this fall.

2) Ranges - Capital, BlueStar, and Wolf in that order. Normally we put in all-gas ranges (because they have infrared broilers) and then an electric convection wall oven with a "speed cook" oven above it (which combines convection & microwave).

3) Wall ovens - Miele, Gaggenau, Wolf

4) Dishwashers - Miele, Bosch

5) Induction - Wolf, Thermador

6) Warming ovens - Miele, Wolf

7) Deep fryers - Wolf, Gaggenau

8) Ventilation hoods - Vent-a-Hood

Thanks, for the help, so far. I was wondering about the new Bosch refrigerators that offer a 30inch fridge and 18 inch freezer that can be put together. I was going with the Subzero because of the ability to get more refrigeration space. Now I am hearing that the listed cubic feet is not accurate on the subzero. The new Bosch is supposed to be more accurate of usuable space, similar to the Liebherr. Has anyone seen them?

Haven't seen the Bosch, but I have the Thermador 30/18 combination and love them. I think the use of space is better than the Subzero -- at least for us.

I have a Woolf Rangetop and double ovens and have been happy with them - although my oven came with a defective heating element. It seemed to be baking off a bit, but it was still at least as good as my recent ovens with one of the elements out -- I hope that says something for how well it should do with all engines firing.

I have the Thermador DWs. Bought them instead of the Bosch because they were $100-150 less for the model that accepts the cabinetry panel than the Bosch equivalent. I didn't go for all the bells & Whistles, the one just below, and I'm pleased with the quiet operation and the cleaning. I didn't find a DW that had racking that seemed ideal, but the Asko and Miele seemed to be more difficult for us.

My warming drawer is a Dacor because it had to fit in a 21" deep cabinet and it's the only one that will. I also like the timer so it doesn't get left on for a day or two before we remember to turn it off.

I did a ton of research but my appliances are in my garage so I cannot give a review.

48" Bluestar with grill

Liebherr 48" biofresh (I really tried to find a Subzero that would fit our needs with more fridge space and less freezer but thought Liebherr was best for that)

2 Bosch dishwashers with top shelf wash capability

Prestige hood (check out throughly VAH before ordering)

Wolf would have been my second choice for a cooking machine after Bluestar.

Appliances are lots of fun! Enjoy.

You guys are being very helpful. Yes appliances are fun, but I live in such a small town that we do not have the option to see most of these appliances, locally. Especially, names like Liebherr and Bluestar. I have a place that can get them all, they just do not show them, which is why it is hard to visiualize fridge interior space. Thanks, for the opinions!

we are in the process of remodeling now..I think we are going with the blue star as we have a garland now and love it except....for the unbearably LOUD convection oven motor...does anyone have a blue star and how loud is the motor..can you bake with the convection off (in the garland it is not advised. Can anyone convince me not to buy the blue star and get a DCS etc
