Polished ceramic on walls (marble look) with matte floors - ok?

We are in the process of decorating our master bathroom and finding the right tile is taking forever.

My new find is a polished, marble-looking wall tile I really like which is on sale at a great price at Porcelanosa. But they no longer have the floor tile from the same series so I am looking for a good match elsewhere. A tile salesperson suggested I try to find something glossy because mixing that with a matte finish or stone look is not recommended and would not look right.

Is this true? I was concentrating more on finding the right color and "character" and actually thought that a matter floor would be better (easier to keep looking clean). But I certainly don't want to end up with a huge mistake instead of a beautiful master bathroom.

What do GW bathroom decorators have to say about combining polished and matter looks in the same bathroom?

While I don't think I would do the opposite of what you're saying - glossy on the floor and matte on the walls - I think glossy on the walls and matte on the floor is fine. I actually have that in my guest/hallway bath, though with rather inexpensive tiles, and I think it looks just right.

I agree - Glossy on the walls and matte on the floor is fine. Can be much better than fine even. Glossy on the bathroom floor can be a real slip hazzard!

Vicostone is typically less expensive because of cheaper labor in Vietnam. I have Vicostone under the name of Pentalquartz in my kitchen. An 8' long vanity with two sink cutouts will be an expensive top. It will be hard to find an 8' remnant but it wouldn't hurt to call around. Can you downsize the vanity to save money? You do need at least 60" for double sinks but a 48" single sink vanity is adequate for a guest bath. You'd save on sink, faucet, counter and cabinet. You'd have plenty of room on the sides for cleaning the floor even with a 60" vanity.

You are correct as there is no difference in slipperiness between honed and polish marble as it is the numerous grout lines which provide traction. I have polished marble dog bone tile in one bathroom and honed marble basket weave in another tile. I chose honed marble in my master bath because I wanted a slightly softer look and also since the master would be getting more use, any etching is less obvious in honed marble. As to whether the specific tiles look good together, I think you need to provide more information.

There are some significant benefits to using porcelain versus ceramic tile. The main difference between porcelain and ceramic tile is the rate of water they absorb. Porcelain tiles absorb less than 0.5% of water whilst ceramic and other non-porcelain tiles will absorb more. This is down to the stuff used to make porcelain tiles. That's what I have, and it looks fine. Actually, the stone look on shower walls that's popular right now isn't a good choice for the shower, as it has grooves in it that are more prone to mold. I would go with shiny OR smooth matte in the shower....no stone look.

You can see the matte floor against the shiny white wall tiles in the pictures of my new bath.
AO Catarina Coliseum comes in matte for the floor and shiny for the walls. I just chose to go with plain white for the walls. It is all grouted now and looks awsome. I'll post more pictures as soon as the painters are done.

The wall and floor tile in this bathroom, although different colors, are both from the very same series, and the floor tile is MADE to be matte, while the wall tile is made to be glossy. let your tile sales person know she can decorate HER house the way she likes.
