I have a Thermador with a grill and I wouldn't do a grill again. I'm not a neat freak and I cook a lot. My main issue is that it takes soooo long to heat up that it makes it all but unusable -- though your AR may not have the same issue. Plus, I have a huge vent-a-hood vent and even with that, there is NO WAY I could cook something fatty like chicken thighs on it. (believe me, I've tried). I'd do all burners and use a grill pan and a griddle. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Ive been through this, was firm on the 6 burner. Did a last minute turn around to grill becuase I think I need a 6 burner once a year and I grill or WOULD grill a few times a week. I understand the infrared grill heats up faster- Im going GE Monogram.

I've been wrestling with the same thing in advance of buying a new range. I'm pretty well settled on six burners on a 36" range.

Then again, I live in Florida, and I have a gas grill on my covered back porch area. If absolutely horrid weather or running out of propane on the grill required it, I could always drop the Lodge cast iron reversible grill pan/griddle on a couple of burners for indoor use.

Without the ease of year-round outdoor cooking, I might well see it differently.
