What do you suggest for a wireless printer?

I am going to Billings tomorrow- there is:

1. WalMart

2. Office Max

3. Sears

4. Best Buy-isn't that closing?

I only need something simple.

Can a simple printer do good pictures or should that be separate?

Am I better off to buy from someplace online, as I am pretty rural- if the printer needs to be fixed Billings is 120 miles away.

You'll probably find the least expensive printer at WalMart, but they'll probably have a more limited selection than Office Max or Best Buy. I haven't been to a Sears in ages, but I don't remember seeing much in the way of printers when I was there.

One advantage to OfficeMax and BestBuy is that they will probably have print samples with the printers and they may be able to help you decide what would best fit your needs.

I use a monochrome laser printer for most of what I print, because I do lots of plain text documents. There's a color inkjet upstairs that is shared on the network, so I can print there if I need color.

Long ago, I used to buy Canon inkjets, but the last few I've bought have been HP. We got a multifunction (printer/copier/scanner) and use it to print just about everything, including pictures. If you're going to do many photos, you should get photo paper for best results.

Do you have just one computer connected to the internet? If so, why would you want a wireless printer? If you have more than one computer you must have a router. Is the second computer connected to the router with a cable? If it's not connected with a cable you must have a wireless router. I have a wireless printer that's connected to my router with a cat 5 cable. Brother told me that it's a more stable connection that way and the printer is only about 3 feet from the router so I connected with a cable and can print from my laptop in a different room.

pk, yes, frustrated is an understatement. Don't like spending so much time on such things that are probably easy. Did a lot of research with no resolve. Printer is hooked up to a desktop; DT hooked up to router. I don't "think" the printer is connected directly to router. Not sure what ethernet is. Laptop works wirelessly to the printer. Laptop is 8 mos old. Was working perfectly fine with printer until this new router was installed the other day. I have not tried plugging the printer directly to laptop. I'll try that in the morning. Brain is fried right now so I'll continue on this quest in the morning since I need the printer for work. Thanks for the help. Wonder if uninstalling the computer software from laptop, then reinstalling it again, will work.

Thank you so much for the input, but I finally gave up fighting this thing every time there's a power interruption and bought a USB cable...hooked it up...and I'm good to go. No more stressing out...and running to the other end of the house just to print something! The other computer is really slow and takes forever and a year to fire up to use it's wired printer.
