My New Christmas Stuff :)

Hi ladies,

I am sorry for not having posted for a while - I am busy working on the marketing side of Christmas, writing and publishing articles and as you can see, as I'm the worse English writer on Earth, I'm not done with the job, lol.

However, I've taken some time to go shopping for Christmas decorations and found few little things I'd like to share with you.

These aren't as amazing as yours but we are limited in decorations here - unless we go shopping in expensive stores.

Ok, so, let's start with my new Christmas centerpiece:

I put some miniature wrapped gifts into the crystal box (actually, I was looking for bordeaux or red rocks or perfumed sand but didn't find them, so, I opted for something completely different)

I found something I've dreamed about for a long time: a Christmas Station... I'm so happy!

Last but not least, here is an item where I hit my head every time I go to the dining room.

Would you agree to give me the code to add a slideshow of the Christmas section of the inspiration album?

Actually I would have added picture by picture on the site but, I made the biggest mistake I would have done: I moved my Christmas site to its own domain name and, obviously, I only had few weeks for the site being up and running for Xmas... So, I have no time at all to pick up pictures here and there.

Since the inspiration album contains wonderful Christmas pictures, I'd like to add a slideshow of it on the site - well, of course, if thes owner of the pictures agree to let me publish their photos.

Dominique, Your centerpiece is very pretty. The little wrapped gifts are perfect. I love the snowman sign hanging over your dining room entrance. And I really love your Christmas station. I haven't seen one like that before. Please tell us a little more about it.

Well, the kind of items you can find here to make a Christmas village are really expensive and I think (not sure though) that there is only one store that sells these items. Low cost Christmas houses are generally broken or that are not part of an entire collection which means that if you buy such a house this year, next year you won't be sure to be able to buy a house from the same manufacture and the same designer.

I have been shopping in a supermarket that made special sales for some things like the station I bought. There also was a funfair and, if I remember a house with kids playing with their Xmas gifts with a tree in the background. They were sold for 30 euros - $38.

So the one I bought is a train that enters and exits the tunnel, the cars are filled with gifts, the station is located above and there are a few steps down to the train. It is also an illuminated and musical item that runs on batteries and/or power. Since I put the station on the dining table, I eat with music and lights, lol.

Plant some flowers and 'weeds' that will repel the bad guys and attract the good ones. For example, I'm waiting for a trade for tansy that repels ants. They not only invaded the house, but , I believe, they farm ants on my plants. Search for beneficial insects and companion plants. There is a great forum here on GW: Plant pests and diseases. Shee...your trees are Beautiful! I love the color combination of your large one. The decorations are just lovely. I remember how your buffet started out and how you developed it into the final results, which looks just perfect. You did such a great job on everything. I once read about hanging small bells on the bottom tree branches to keep the pets away. Don't know if it works...Never had that problem with my dogs...but it might be worth a try. jane

First thing that comes to my mind is inadequate ventilation in the new roof frame structure. Or, you might actually have an active roof leak. I have seen the phenomenon you are describing on some church ceilings where there are open beams and planks. Can you figure out why you are only seeing this in the great room? Could sap in the wood of the new structure be "cooking out" and dripping down on the planks? Was the existing roofing removed or was everything built over it?

I just packed up this week past and the kitchen was demolished on Tuesday. I can't believe how much stuff I have! No wonder I think I need more storage and have ordered uppers that go all the way to the ceiling! I tried to exercise some discipline and throw out all the old things I rarely use anymore. I wasn't very successful... let's say it was like removing sand from the desert with a teaspoon. I guess I'm just attached to my old favs, like special friends. Plus, my mom passed away last year and I ended up with most of her stuff - as the only girl child, my brothers simply delegated all that kitcheny/household stuff to my best judgement. How could I possibly get rid of the green glass citrus squeezer??? or Grandma's best china?? Or Auntie's hand painted china, etched aluminum trays or the ancestral beer glasses?? For the record, I did throw away all the sippy cups and souvenir kiddy dishes (the baby starts HS next week), and at least 2 dozen coffee mugs are packed to donate to the local thrift (I'm sure those breed in closed cupboards) but I still have at least 3 dozen I can't part with. Hey, who wants to come to my place for coffee? Or tea? I counted 6 teapots, keepers all. I do think I'll replace all, or at least most of my kitchen towels. They have all seen better days, even if they rarely see the light of day anymore. We are currently settling into our "temporary kitchen" in the wet bar area of our basement rec room. This classic piece of 1960s design and construction leaves much to be desired functionally, but at least it boasts running water and a usable refigerator. Ironically, in the 13+ yrs we've lived in this house, we have seldom ventured into this cubby-hole, except to access the beer fridge. Now, I can hardly wait until the kitchen is completed so I can start planning its renovation...

WOW! How wonderful for you! Beautiful purchases. The center piece is very pretty. And the station looks like alot of fun. Can't wait to see your tree.

Dominique, how lucky for you that you are finding some new xmas items for your house. Your centerpiece is very pretty, and the little house is adorable, with the moving train. I've seen similar here & they are expensive.

The sign is adorable too. You are doing good this year finding decorations!!

It's great to eat with the "choo-choo" of the train and then the music playing.

A snowman was something missing in my home for Christmas... now I have three snowmen for the price of one, lol.

Dominique, I agree with what everyone has said about your decorations. The mini presents are a wonderful idea, the little Village, the center-piece, everything. You did good!!

You can do the slideshow from our album as far as I'm concerned. I gathered photos from so many places and will hope no one cares I've put them together for us to enjoy.
LOL. As of tonight there are 255 photos, tho I expect many more will be added in the next few weeks.

Dominique, I am wondering....since I didn't get permission for the many of those photos, a lot didn't have any credit on them or way to do so, I'm not sure if they should be used on a commercial site (if that's what yours is). I don't know anything about infringement rights in such matters, but don't want either of us to get in trouble.
I believe most people are happy you want to see and share their pictures, and that's why they put them on the Internet. But there are some that get upset if anyone copies theirs too.
I tried to be sure on ones I copied that they were listed as "public". Or asked folks, of course, when I could, before I used theirs.
I think linking to the slideshow would be ok for you, but not posting the photos themselves if your site is commercial? Just some thoughts to ponder.

Actually, I'm thinking about posting a topic asking for permissions from the members... and then, if (and when) I'll have some time to do it, I'll pick up the pictures that I have authorisation for and will add to the site.

There are more thoughts in the mail :)

Anyway, it's ok for me to post the link to the album on the site :-D
