Comments (19)Well, thanks for the responses, I will try to answer a few. Yes, there were veggies, beans, lettuce, brussel sprouts in my flower bed. I intend moving that bed as soon as I get the greenhouse up, and it will be almost in the same spot, just run the other way. Theres no electricity there for the chandie so its just for looks, and yes, I pulled the copper globe things off the light strings and hot glued them to the top of the candle/light sockets. I'm not sure how long the beads will last there, the wind usually blows from behind us, so that shouldn't be a problem. Besides, there plastic and probably would be in a land fill for a thousand years, should last a couple here..lol And they start out light green on the top and get darker towards the bottom. Not easy to photograph. The bird feeder is a 5 gallon water bottle, I just cut a rectangle out of the front leaving enough to keep the seeds in and the birdies can get into, and run a large eye up from the bottom and attach it to the finial thingy on the shade. It really glows in the sun, and should help keep the sunflower seeds dry and the squirells out. Yes, thats a cast iron stove insert I picked up from a yard sale last year. We burn wood almost every evening in spring and fall/winter. Deliberately left it to rust. I cover it with flowers in the summer. I put the windows along the bottom just to cut the wind at Thanksgiving last year, and liked them so much there permanant now. I use a regular indoor old rug under the "living room" area, and thats about it. I am so glad you all like it. We live in the country, so can do much as we wish. My neighbor thinks I'm a bit tacky, he's the "nothing but grass and flowers" mind. Which is fine for them, but I love "tacky and cute". I also love to repurpose things....See MoreSad day, I had to put down my 20+ year old crock pot...
Comments (9)I did go with the Fagor a few months ago and love it - the browning feature is great although most meats in the quantities you would be slo or pressure cooking have to be done in two batches. I still find it nicer to have a plate to wash over a separate skillet though :) And - My larger pressure cookers are stored in the basement and not completely handy when I want them. On days when I'm not especially organized (and I have a few of those) when I've wanted dinner ready at dinner time and was going to be gone in the late afternoon - but had not started slow cooking something earlier in the day...I've set it to pressure cook a few minutes, then reset to slo cook on low till time I wanted to serve....tenderizing inexpensive meats further than the 'keep warm' feature would do. But it is only 6 qt. Nesco makes an identical product - I went with the Fagor because its an inch smaller in diameter, allowing it to be stored on a 12" kitchen cupboard shelf, with the door closed :) I was looking for a replacement to my 70's era West Bend bean pot style crockpot that had been a faithful kitchen help most of my adult life and got distracted by the multi-function appliance. What I kept finding in reviews is that the newer slow cookers cook hotter than the old, surprising some of us who were used to the really slow cooking....See MoreMy brand new computer is no faster than my old one, now what?
Comments (23)thanks, we live on a busy county lake road which is paved, i believe the lines are buried. i know like i said that on the other side of the road they get cable, and our neighbors who live just east of us get it as well, so we are borderline on it all, although i have to say i don't know of anyone who has cable internet, just the tv service ut i could be wrong. Our provider is just a very small town company who sells computers and internet service, phones and phone service, and DirecTv so it isn't a large company that anyone would recognize the name or anything. My mom only lives 15 miles from me and she gets comcast so i need to check on that. i did check on satellite internet last night and didn't think the speed or price was any better than what i have now, and we have issues here with our satellite signal going out in bad weather even though it says it has 99.9 % strength. I have also checked with alltel and verizon in the past, and although their upload speeds sound impressive, the people i know who have their service hate it and have a lot of outages. So basically i just need to call Monday and see what my options are i guess. I appreciate all the advice and help. I am spending my day today researching routers and trying to figure our which one i should get and i am wondering if the transmission speeds noted on these have anything to do with how it will affect my internet speed. i am so tired of reading reviews and specs and need to just make a decision already because i have already spent way too much time on this, but there definitely does not seem to be one that has all good reviews, i just do not want to get something that will slow me down even worse if there is such a thing....See MorePutting my old dog down - Need wisdom
Comments (25)No Sylvia, I am not the OP .... I'm just one of many who offered my own opinion and heartfelt experience - FWIW. I trust OP and other readers will be grappling with the input and various perspectives here.... as well as their own emotions and past experiences around death.... and in the end it'll be what it is, some combination of grief, relief, regret, and love.... My own experience/knowledge is that "good" deaths are indeed possible - one of my dear kitties died of feline leukemia and got progressively weaker/more frail but purred / recognized and wanted me present til the very end....her last few minutes she became a bit agitated and then she passed... it was simply like a wave going through her and her spirit left.... More recently though.... my old calico faced a death that would have been highly traumatic for both her and me and according to my vet could have quite likely involved many minutes, evem hours of her struggling to breathe.... so that led to a different outcome and a rather agonizing decision to euthanize.... Those two experiences informed my view that I dont think one size fits all and that a good talk with a vet who knows you and your animal well is the best tool for making a decision. Honestly, Syvlia - if I was to choose between one of those two ways of death for myself I would choose the first one - to pass naturally and peacefully - I would so HATE to put anyone through the agony of having to decide what to do .... But alas.... peaceful deaths are not always possible... maybe even a rarity, I dunno..... I do recognize that! I apologize if my words came across as insulting - that was not my intention....See Moreremodelfla
