Thank-you. The company sent me the wrong item, I asked for the Laticrete Latasil Silicone Caulk Sealant, but they just sent regular Laticrete, which is OK since it will also get used. The shower is waterproofed to our city code standards, but various contractors waterproof showers "properly" in other methods. So far no water seems to get in behind the wall, it's very dry back in there and we don't use the shower at all when cracks appear - not until it is repaired. A tile contractor (the only one I can find who's website says they do "tile repair" and that comes recommended) said he actually won't come and make these kinds of repairs, he will repair his own work but that of others he removes and re-does it all, because he wants to be able to guarantee the work. I have not found anyone else willing to do the repair. So it's up to me, and I just want to make sure I have what it takes before tackling it! Thank-you for your advice about the caulk.

Grouting vertically (walls) is quite easy. I actually find walls easier than floors. It's grouting ceilings that can sometimes be a pain. As to caulking the joints, or using a faux-grout (the premixed grouts), sure, if you really wanted to go that route that'd really be no problem for up high above a tub surround. It's not going to see foot traffic, and it's really not going to see anything harsh. Fortunately I've never used the faux-grouts. I've seen them at the box stores, that's it. I have used color-matching caulks. I know I've seen them at the box stores too, but I'm not sure of the variety of their in-stock selection. For your small amount, probably caulk right out of the tube would be easiest.

After you set your tile do NOT walk on it for 24 hours. You can grout it the next day. After that you can walk on the tile, but do NOT walk on the grout. I would wait another 24 hours to replace the toilet & do the trim work. Make sure you have a wax ring for your toilet.

Exactly! btw. I sound like a total rube I know, but no one ever told me I have to squeegee my glass to keep it from etching. Get the girls a squeegee and have them go to town after every shower. It will keep the grout cleaner as well as save you from having to see permanent spots on the glass door.
