Email Program With Notifier?

Does anyone know of a good, safe email program that has an email notifier? One that appears on the desk top to show incoming email? I just read that Incredimail isn't good to use and would like to replace it.

TIA

My Hotmail 'used to' notify me of new emails, but it doesn't anymore, however Windows Live Messenger got deleted off my computer a while back when I had the Operating System reloaded. I liked it when I had it.

Well please excuse my last post. I didn't totally check out the link I posted and it seems Windows Live Messenger no longer notifies of new Hotmails...sigh.

I just added the Webmail Notifier from Mozilla (at link below) and see that it doesn't work for me either.

I hope someone can help you (us).

Hmmm...maybe I need to check for updates? I'll be back if I find I can get it working.

Well, I am still one of those without my personal e-mail addy listed on my member page, but can have e-mail sent to me through GW. In the past, I have had my addy listed and have had serious problems with spam mail that comes from other forums on GW. Since I post on quite a few of the other forums on GW, I found that some of them do have their fair share of spam type posts; advertising for various websites, products etc. When my e-mail addy was available for anyone to see, these posts would pop up on these other GW forums and within an hour or so I would have the spam coming to my e-mail box about the product, site etc. Once I realized where all this spam was coming from, I removed my addy from my member page, and that was the end of the spam coming from here. Hope you all understand why I no longer have my e-mail addy available to see, but as I said, you can send it through GW and I would say that 95% of the time I don't have a problem getting it. Fran

you will get that warning on all add ons now it is just a precaution that mozilla is taking to let you know this is not something created by them, however if you get it from the link at the mozilla site they do test them for safety before they allow them on the site. There were a few instances a while back that they found a couple of add ons that were a bit hinky so now they put up that warning to protect themselves and you.

I was a Netscape user also and was forced to change due to new features being added to web sites that was no longer supported by Netscape. I now use Thunderbird version 2.0.0.19 and I am able to clean forwarded messages, sometimes with difficulty. I have no problem with deleting plain text, but sometimes have trouble with text within a 'frame' or graphic images. My work-around for this is to move to the bottom of the frame and begin deleting from the bottom, or right-click on it and delete the whole frame. Usually, I can start a selection from the bottom and delete that portion. If the 'text' is really an image, the entire image has to be deleted. If all else fails, as mentioned by a poster above, you can select, copy, and then paste into a new email window. By the way, I was able to import all my old email messages into Thunderbird (from Netscape), as well as my address book. Thunderbird appears a little different to Netscape, but most of all the features are there.

Some avoid IE on the notion that malware is most often aimed at Windows and it's suite of applications. There's good reason they target those. The close interaction among Microsoft products give them multiple ways to get in. But of course, many people use them and never have a malware problem, because they (1) don't indiscriminately download or open every piece of junk someone forwards to them, (2) they don't open everything a web site invites them to open, (3) they keep a good antivirus/malware program up to date, and (4) they religiously install all MS security patches and service packs. Some take some pleasure in not using EI as sort of a defiant act against MS. There's some perverse bragging also going on. They don't use the browser of the ignorant masses, they use , preferably something the listener hasn't heard of. Kind of like sneering at AOL users. Email clients are mostly just personal preferences, and it's often just whatever they happened to start with. Some are a bit better for one or another persons particular email habits. Note that, since you're using XP, if it was bought many years ago and you're using IE version 6, it is no longer secure, and you should long ago have upgraded. You should also be sure you're now running XP Service Pack 3. Go to: http://support.microsoft.com/ If you have not kept up with security upgrades and service packs, block out some considerable time to download and install everything you need.

Well I got it to work. There is a small letter box in the search toolbar and it is gray if there is no new mail. When you get new mail it turns yellow and shows whatever number of new emails there are. There is also a brief pop-up at the bottom that makes a small sound (beep) when the mail comes in.

Once the add-on is downloaded you have to go to
tools
add-ons
Webmail notifier
options

Use the dropdown box to choose what email you are using...like Hotmail
and then below that fill in your hotmail email addy next to "user name' and fill in your Hotmail password and ADD. There are some other settings you might want to play with too, once you get it up and running. I don't really understand them and what they do, or don't do.

For a long time I have used the 'PopMan' program for an email notifier & previewer with my Hotmail & other email accounts too.

For those who use the Opera browser, the built-in mail client/rss reader has a notifier as well (on by default but can be switched off).

I use Thunderbird email. It has a "pop" sound and a "letter" icon on the quick launch bar when there is new mail. There may be other alert choices; I haven't bothered to check.

Also use Yahoo, no alerts that I know of.
