Secunia & Sun Java

I looked at my Secunia & it showed that I need to update

Sun Java JRE 1.6.X/6.X. I clicked on SOLUTION & it did a download. I can't find where that download went. I did a search & it didn't find it.

Is there somewhere else I can get it?

If you run the Secunia Software Inspector on a Windows machine with Java version 1.6.0_03 you get this message:

"This installation of Sun Java JRE 1.6.x / 6.x is insecure and potentially exposes your system to security

Here is what you need to do, uninstall all old versions of java. From the add/remove or programs and features. Then run the JavaRa tool to clean up. Then go the the sun Java site and install JRE 6 UPDATE 18. The latest version of Java.

you can always update java by going to control panel then double click on the java icon (coffee cup) and go to update and choose update now. However since you have the older versions you will need to make note of the new version you just installed (watch out not to get any pre checked toolbars or junk) then as zep said clear out all those old versions. Javara is an excellent way to clear them out.
Once you get up to date the new version will then remove the old one next time you update it they made that change not too long ago.

Not necessary on Windows Vista as Vista offers its own pre-loading mechanisms. Is it necessary on xp? Probably not see link. Perhaps if your running Java based programs or something like that you may want it to load java faster, It's sort of a new process with Java. Here is a link that might be useful: quickstarter.xml

try opening your browsers and then shutting them down to see if it will pick up the new flash for each browser. for java try going to your java console on the pc in control panel just look for java then open it and hit the update button. also a good time to clear the cache on your browsers too

Bobbie is correct, but only if you will be connecting the old system to the Internet. If so, you should be certain that your system hasd the current versions of Flash and Shockwave installed also. Finally, be certain that the Java is the proper version for the browser intended. DA

Java Problems - can't access, can't uninstall

When I go to that page, it does not list my system information. So I clicked each additional suggestion. No luck. Specifics are: The Firefox plugin is enabled. Nothing happens when I try to open the Java panel. It won't open. The instructions for clearing the cache do not seem right. When I go to the Edit button, I do not have a + or option to expand. So I could not do that one. I did try to find it through tools - options - advanced - network. It says I have no cache being stored for on or offline (I had just run ccleaner before =- so that cleared the cache, I think). I still selected clear now - but I couldn't tell if anything happened. So all the options either showed no problem =- or I couldn't not execute them. Any pointers would be great. Thanks. Lynn.
