Looking for best aquarium screensaver

I have a new cat rescued from the pound and she seems to like sitting on my desk and watching anything moving on my computer screen. I thought it would entertain her to have an aquarium on the screen, and I would enjoy it myself.

Do any of you have an aquarium screensaver and can you recommend it or one you know of?

I have done the Google search but there are so many choices I'm just not sure which one to try, and course I would like a free one but paying $20 or $30 bucks would not be a problem.

One of the nicest 'paid for' aquarium screen savers that I have ever found is from Club Aquatica and you can have a look see in my link.

No true fresh water fish needs salt. As long as you keep your tank clean and your fish seem to be doing fine, leave off the salt. A tiny pinch wouldn't harm the Plays or the Gup, but would NOT be appreciated by the Gouramis or the Tetra. One of the greatest problems with too many aquarium owners, is not understanding that not all fish have the same water parameter needs and mixing them can lead to unhappy, if not dead fish. The Platys and the Gup prefer harder water and a higher Ph than the Gouramis and the Tetra, but that can also depend on which species of Tetra you have. Generally, it's best to set up tanks by region, for instance, an Amazon tank, with soft, slightly acidic water would be ideal for small Amazon tetras such as Neons, but the best water for them, would not be good for Gups. If you want to get live plants that will do well in a 10, try an Anubas Petite and a few Crypts. They don't need a lot of bright light and won't overgrow your tank. If you can't find them locally, check out aquarium plant sellers online. Good luck.

The one thing that I will have to upload to another file link is the 21 different backgrounds that go with the aquarium if you want them. If you want them, once you've downloaded them, the instructions for loading each one is as follows: -Run Dream Aquarium and press ENTER to bring up the main Dream Aquarium menu -Click on "Sequencer" -Choose "Add Tank" -From the list of tanks select "Custom Backdrop" (the blue one) -Choose "Change Background" -Choose "Use Background Image" -Choose "Select Background Image" It will temporarily close down Dream Aquarium and bring up a file requester - navigate to and select your image. Dream Aquarium should then reappear with your image as the background. =================================== It really looks more difficult than it really is but I'll be glad to help if you need it. 8) JM

can I repurpose sideboard or china cabinet to fishtank stand?

You can absolutely do that. I put a 55gal on an old (not antique) sideboard - cut an access hole in the back panel so that I could house the air pump, etc inside the cabinet (along with tons of supplies) and had the tank on top. It looked great - much prettier than the 'style deficient' stands that are sold for aquariums.

I have made a copy of my 3d screen saver.

It is one of the nicest that you will find anywhere!

After you click on my link .. you will open a page that shows some numbers that are counting down: 10,9,8 .. 5,4,3 etc. etc.

When the numbers get to zero, you will see: "Proceed To File Download Page".

Click on Download and you will have a Great Aquarium Screensaver .. for 'Free'! 8)

The download is available for all of my good friends on the forum!

When you start the screensaver .. There are two options that I forgot to mention.

"Right Click" and a menu will come up that gives you options like adding fish, feeding fish, aquarium settings (Too many to name here) such as lighting and how often to feed the fish, bubbles, sounds etc.etc.

The other options come up by holding the "Shift" button and clicking on 'S' which will bring up a window to add different tanks and how fast you want to transition and whether you want to fade to black between transitions or change instantly.

If you go on the Internet looking for a screen saver please be sure to investigate the download site before installing. Screen saver, font, and smiley sites have always been used to share viruses to unknowing users.

JM, thanks for the reply but when I clicked on your first connection I get the WOT warning "UNSAFE SITE". Just thought I would let you know.

I tried the second connection you posted a link for only because I know you are a trusted member on this forum. It downloaded alright But when I tried to install it I got a ERROR message that says "DREAM AQUARIUM NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED" So I'm not sure what went wrong, just thought I would let you know so you could have someone else see if they had the same results. It sure sounds like something I would like to have, just what I had in mind.

DA, yes you're right, it's one of the reasons I didn't poke around too much on the Google site, although there are many that have the green WOT indicator, sometimes when you click on one it leads you off into places that don't look too secure.

DA is so right those types of screensavers are notorious for being loaded with spyware adware and even worse. So glad to see you using WOT and heeding their warning.

another option would be to go to a site like this one that has videos of real aquariums you can view, to see if they interest the cat before going for a screensaver. They have several aquariums to choose from

That's why I try to follow my own advise to whenever I can use a notebook to record information, setting changes, installations, configurations, etc. It sure comes in handy and saves a lot of frustration and time when needed.
