Luvs - that snowmen scene is to die for - I just love it - you have done a really sweet job with them - please show us more as you keep tweaking. I do the same thing - right up to Christmas day. I like to get everything out - in the rooms and in the general position they are suppose to go and then tweak on each vignette as I veiw it from different directions going from room to toom.....

Dawn - my family laughs at me all the time because I will be sitting there in the family room watching TV and get up and move an ornament to another place or place another small tree in the Christmas village or I may come across the cutest thing while shopping and then need to add it to some scene or see an idea on one of the HGTV craft shows.....well you get the picture - LOL.....

Lynne - Yep, that would be me as well!!! Also, I have a 2 yr old that loves decorating just about as much as her mother....so she's constantly moving things around and I'm constantly going behind her :) LOL

My tree rotates, which sometimes is really aggravating for someone like me, b/c all sides are being seen - Why do we do this to ourselves!! ha ha

Nice job, Luvs. I really like how your stacked plates turned out. Mine finally got done today. I couldn't decide what I wanted to do, then just gave up and did a little of this and little of that instead of what I originally intended. Which was to have an elegant one like yours and some Judith has done. But this may be the LAST time I ever try to stack ornament balls on a plate.
LOL. I keep waiting for my Brat Cat to discover them. He's worrying me, with all my decorating this past week, he's been an angel. ???? Wish I knew what he was thinking, or planning. LOL I'm about done, except my little village setup. Perhaps THAT is what Ty is waiting for. You think?

I'm taking photos and hope to get them online Monday or Tues. But I have a question for you and everyone.....
I know most folks try to get decorations started Thanksgiving weekend, but how long do you leave them up??
With the exception of last year, I always took mine down on New Years Day. And that's how my folks did it. Decorate the day after Thanksgiving, un-decorate Jan 1st. A few days ago, my Dad was watching me working on stuff and he commented that with all I was doing, it was a shame it had to be put away the 1st. I laughed and asked him where that rule was written. I'm NOT busting my butt and suffering this much (Fibro) pain for just 4 wks. Last year I took it all down mid Jan. Anyway, got me curious what y'all do. So much work, so little time!!!

Purplemoon, I usually take my stuff down 1/1, but I know of others that keep some stuff up through the winter, houses, snowmen, etc.

Karen, I usually remove mine on 1/1 also--or whenever the mood hits me! I think the non-Santa things could stay up for the WINTER just fine if you want.

All of you are so sweet. My home is very modest, but I do enjoy decorating for the holidays. I think the most fun was hunting for and finding the items to put together for the stacked plates and vignettes. ;o) Good excuse to hit the stores! LOL

I am so looking forward to seeing everyone's ideas and how each of you decorate your homes. In my opinion, there is no right or wrong way--just what you can do and what you like. And you can always add to it or change it next year, right?

You know, I'd really love to see stacked plates with cute little snowmen figures on them--wouldn't that be cute? There are just so many possibilities for the plates. Really have to thank Judith for getting us started on those.

Well Luvs, you have the plates and you collect Snowmen, so sounds like you need to get busy! Actually that is a cute idea. I'm beginning to think I need TWO sets of stacked plates. One for "elegant" and one for "cute", then I wouldn't have to make a big decision each holiday with them.

Karen, you are right--I too struggle between wanting more "elegant" and the "cute" things. With little GD now, the "cute" is sort of taking priority right now! LOL Bought a tree with white lights, but she wanted "rainbow" lights so "guess who" added some strands of multi colored lights? LOL

Catknapp, Jim, and Cheri, I know what beautiful decorating you three do, so any compliment from you is treasured for sure. I had fun trying to do more and better than what I did before this forum. ;o)

Prosperity, thank you for the nice compliment. Most of my florals have come from Walmart. If you really look, you can find some very nice ones there at a reasonable price. The roses on the stacked plates are really nice and less than $2.00 each. I am retired, so try to be very frugal now. ;o)

I received yesterday evening a catalog from a wallmart which provides with that kind of decorations (the other markets only have classic and simple deco).

Luvs, you did a great job! Your stacking plates came out wonderful too, I see you found a perfect "topper" for the stacking plates too. Love your vignette with the plates, they are so pretty. The snowmen theme is so cute, you have a great collection! You are putting me in the festive mood!

Everytime I see a snowman now, I think of you, Luvs. I'm wondering how many of the fellows you have in total... it's quite a flock! (Do snowmen flock? Group? Herd? :-) )

Luvs, I love your stacked plates! I use them all the time. I think it makes such a beautiful display. We use them alot to serve food at receptions also. It makes a beautiful buffet for fingerfoods!

I can't believe the roses are not real! I love flowers. Could have sworn they were real from your picture. Great job!

Karen, Christmas is my very favorite time of year and I can NEVER bring myself to take the decorations down since I switched to fake trees.

Year before last my husband took the stuff down. I'm too embarrassed to tell you when.

Last year we had moved to a new house with a living room that is not used all of the time and I had bought a beautiful 7 1/2 foot tree. It was so beautiful that I never did take it down!!!! All I have to do is put up the rest of my decorations and we're ready for Santa!!

Don't laugh, I am so happy with that tree. I will take it down this year because I don't want it to get too dusty, but it will probably be after January. So, enjoy your decorations until you are ready to take them down guilt free.

LOL, thanks Betty! I loved reading your post. Do we get to see a photo of this wonderful tree? I think its nice that convention can be thrown to the wind when you truly are enjoying something. Why feel guilty about any decor that makes you happy, huh? At least if our significant others, LOL, can handle it.

Judith, I was so excited to find that glass topper. And it was still in the box and only 99 cents at the TS. The lady there had told me it had just come in and since it was "old" she didn't think anyone would want it! Wrong!

Kathleen, I wanted to tell you that I put a little light in the bell jar in front of the little snowman I sat in there. DH said that at night it looks more like a Halloween decoration since the light isn't very bright and casts some shadows on the snowman's face!

PF, I'm glad you liked my rose plates. I just added another one to my collection yesterday. All except three or four of them have been TS finds. It is so fun to hunt for them. I just think the roses are so pretty. I have quite a few cups and saucers collected now too. Just need to get my display stand painted and decorated to hold them.

Ladycindy, you are right, the stacked plates make any food look more elegant, don't they? I hope you have seen the decorated ones Judith creates. They are gorgeous and usually match her table scape. Her fall one is what made me want to start doing them.

I really like the glass dome on the silver tray with the pretty ornies inside. What a great idea and one I'm going to borrow for sure. Your snowman land on the window ledge is perfect. Has your little gd seen it yet? I know she is thrilled with everything. And your snowpeople on the plaid tablerunner is so cute. I love the silver pics scattered around. And your vignette with the red dome is perfect. I love how you have it decorated on the diagonal.

Everything you did is just so pretty. You should give yourself a pat on the back for such a wonderful job.

Little GD and I sat down and looked at each tree ornament and she got to touch them all and talk about them. I gave her some old unbreakable ones to play with. She is really good about not bothering the displays.

The red on the mantle with the obviously pastel picture and sconce is bothering me a bit. First year I've done red in here. I could remove the pink sconce glass and just put red candles in, but don't have another pic to replace that one. Oh, well, maybe I'll just ignore it! LOL

Luvs, the two Jim's could probably give you some great advice re the red on mantle bothering you with the pastel picture. My first thought was to simply ADD some pink roses to the reds on the mantle to tie it all in better.
Pink and red can work together. I might even stick in some burgundy (of course, LOL) to make the transition flow from the red to pink flowers easier. But then I probably haven't a clue what I'm talking about it here, LOL.

You decorated your home beautifully! I love the snowmen! I'm sure you get lots of enjoyment from seeing it everyday. I love to see beautiful homes at christmas. Great job!

I don't think there is anything in this world better than to have a young child around to share the decorations with. They are filled with such awe and to share in their joy makes me so happy. You are so lucky to have your little gdau so near to you.

The only thing I noticed about your pink sconces is how much I love them. Try the red candles and see if they look better to you. Maybe a little greenery and a rose through the sconce arms would tie the sconces to your mantle. I don't know what color your picture is in RL, but in the pic it looks like some of the flowers are red. And remember, the hardest person to please is ourself.

Luvs - I have the same problem in my home because I have a pastel picture above the credenza. So, I set up all of my pastel Santas and snowmen under it. If you don't have a picture to replace the one over the fireplace maybe you could do a larger wreath in its place. You sure did a great job on the decorating, everything looks so pretty.

Thanks for the great suggestions. It wasn't a problem until I decided to use red this year. Previously I used mauve colored poinsettias on the mantle so they went together perfectly. I like the idea of replacing the pictured with a wreath for the holiday. Might need a really good sized wreath for that area. Even a mirror might be a good idea. That and removing the pink glass globes and putting in some red candles and greenery on the sconces should do it.

Yesterday, little GD was telling Grandpa "her" tree was prettier because it has "bells" on it! So interesting to see what catches their attention. Of course, Grandpa then had to tease her with the whole "my tree is prettier" banter back and forth. Kids are so cute--even the ones who have never grown up like my DH! LOL

WOW Luvs, you *have* been a busy little elf! Every nook and cranny in your home is soooo festive. Don't you feel you do it as much for the kids as you do yourself? My grands always get so excited when they see my house all 'done up'. LOL

I especially love the way you've used your antique dishes in your Christmas vignette. I love the old mixed with the new. And your stacking plate....you are a PRO!
