Just wondering. What is Adobe Air and is it connected somehow with Adobe Reader?

Systems for building rich Internet applications using Adobe Flash, Adobe Flex, HTML, or Ajax, that can be run as desktop applications.

On January 28, 2009, Adobe claimed that there were over 100 million installations of Adobe AIR worldwide, and that "the majority of AIR runtime installations occur at the time the first AIR application is installed by a user.The large number of installations is actually due to the fact that Adobe AIR was included with all downloaded installations of Adobe Reader 9 (released in July, 2008), with no option for exclusion either in the download or in the installation.

air is like flash, java script, or .net platform it is a framework that some applications require to be able to run and perform properly. It can be removed, if you have something that would require Air to work properly it will tell you or install it. It is being used more by websites. Air is more or less a Java, or Flash equivalent.
I think it may install when you install other Adobe products.

Snidely's comments about mainstream web sites are right on target. Such sites are usually run by knowledgeable webmasters who know how to keep their site secure and are prompt to take action if the site is attacked. Infected ads can happen, though and here is where a little common sense can pay a huge dividend. When you think you might want to click on an ad, make a decision about how important the product/service being offered is to you. If it is important, make an effort to locate the provider's web site yourself rather than depending on the ad to take you there. If you think that's too much work, then think about the potential downsides of an infected computer which could include fraud and/or identity theft. Persons who try to practice safe computing generally don't stumble into trouble. Persons who refuse to practice safe computing don't have to go looking for trouble...it will find them soon enough. also they will give that warning when there is a known problem with the latest version of a program that has not yet been updated or patched, that may well be the case here. They know there is an issue with the latest version but there is not yet a new patched one out yet so they still let you know that what you have currently can be a security risk. In those cases some people would choose to uninstall and wait others will just stay with what they have till the patched version is released.

"..... and it still shows up....." Does it still appear in the Add/Remove utility? Have you done a manual search of the Program Files Folder on the C:/ drive to see if it is indeed still there? If you have CCleaner use its utility to determine if it is reported still apparent. Have you done a START>Search to see what type of files if any are still in existence? I am asking all this as it does happen on occasion that after an application has been removed the entry will still appear in the Add/Remove reports. CCleaner will remove any erroneous entry if it is determined to be so. DA

Unless you are emotionally attached to AR or the site absolutely mandates it, I personally haven't found one yet as all they traditionally do is recommend, you might want to rethink installing or updating to AR v9.0. Beginning with AR v6.0 the application has become more system intensive requiring more resources. I do not know about v9.0, but v7.0 and v8.0 are terribly difficult to remove from your system if you ever so decide to. The free application Foxit Reader has been the recent .pdf viewer being recommended here and at other forums. All you have to do is install it and configure it to be the default reader. It is low resource demanding and from my readings a snap to remove. DA
