I wouldnt waste time or money on gutter guards as the gutters will eventually be even more difficult to clean. I have a similar water disposal system using a pop-up valve. It works very well and my plants get a lot of extra water. I installed them them as my dry-well had longsince clogged up. W7 & W8 has a built in sandbox type program called "steady state" many do not know exist on your PC it prevents change to the PC by maleware, it is configured into the guest account of every Microsoft PC, however when you set up your PC up the guest act. is disabled so to use this feature you must enable guest account, then log out of admin: act. and login using guest act. Then when something trys to install or get in, a message will pop up that unless you provide admin. rights it will not install. If you do want to install a printer or software, you must log out and come back in using admin act. Just depress your Ctrl key when you click for the site. It disables popup blocker for that moment. I usually forget to turn the blocker back on, so this way I don't have to turn it off.

I suppose I'm one of them optimists LOL! Because I think the fact that you got a response at all is pretty amazing considering they were bleeding money and now that is solved, and the site is on the operating table getting an owner transplant. GW has a big purse backing it assuming it goes through without a hitch, and the new owners bring to the table already a large online community which will likely bring new contributing members. I am not blocking the ads anymore, I just wanted to see if it could be done. If the ads are popping up without mousing over them, that is a bug that I can't imagine isn't an artifact of the process of change in ownership and will shortly disappear.
