Connecting wireless printer without a pc

I have wireless system already with a broadband modem and a router. I don't have a working computer but I do have an ipad 4th gen wireless. How do I set up my epson 2540 printer with air print so I can print from my ipad?.

Try this Youtube video. If you find that difficult look down the left side for other videos on how to do it.

There should be instructions with your printer if it is "wireless" capable. I am not familar with Epsons as I have HP, but I expect the procedure is similar. Before you begin, you will need two pieces of information: The network name of your Router/Gateway and the security code sometimes called password. The ID name might have the form "2 wire488"; the security key may have 8 to 12 digits. Often, the security key is on a label on the gateway/router.

With these two pieces of information, enter the setup menu on your printer and turn on the radio or whatever it is called. Next, follow instructions to connect to your gateway by suppling the gateway ID and security code. If the instructions do not appear on yoru printer's display, get instructions from its manual. After the ID and security code have been entered, there will be a short delay while the printer and router establishes the wireless connection.

Once the printer has been linked to the router, any device on your local area network (LAN) can send print jobs to the printer. However, the sending device must contain a driver for the printer.

Once the link has been established, the printer should be able to retain this connection after being shut down and restarted at a later time.

Optionally, the link can be turned off at the printer by entering its menu and turning off its radio. This frees the channel on the router. The link is automatically re-established when the printer's radio is turned back on.

Do you have just one computer connected to the internet? If so, why would you want a wireless printer? If you have more than one computer you must have a router. Is the second computer connected to the router with a cable? If it's not connected with a cable you must have a wireless router. I have a wireless printer that's connected to my router with a cat 5 cable. Brother told me that it's a more stable connection that way and the printer is only about 3 feet from the router so I connected with a cable and can print from my laptop in a different room.

jemdandy, I think you have some misconceptions. One wirelessly connected device produces no burden on a router, there's no need to switch off a radio if the device is connected and functioning as is. At times I can have 12 or more devices wirelessly connected to my network and you wouldn't know the difference. One consideration is that many wifi transceivers (routers) have a practical limitation in the mid-teens of MB throughput (like maybe 14-16 megs) and so those dozen devices can't all be streaming video before there's a slowdown or confusion. Nor would most people's Internet connections provide enough bandwidth to do that anyway. But at lower levels of sustained rates or bursts, like internet surfing, emailing, or streaming audio, there's no issue for any user, each would think they are the only one active on the network. Keep in mind that "wifi" is nothing more than the wireless signal connection to a network, it isn't something separate. A wirelessly connected printer is the same as one connected by wire, it can be set up to be visible to all network connected devices, no matter how they are connected.

Ha, no other takers. Try the following. First, I'll assume the two PCs have distinct names and are connected to a router (any combination of WIFI, ethernet or both). Also I assume both have the needed drivers installed for the printer. Pick one PC to be "home base". Connect the printer to it and then install the printer as a network printer as follows: Control Panel Printers and Faxes Add a Printer (Printer Wizard Starts) Next Choose "A network printer or a printer attached to another computer" - Then Next Choose - Browse for a Printer - Then Next You'll See the printer, highlight it. Next Choose yes to "Do you want this as default printer" Done. STOP HERE Before leaving this PC, go back to the Printers and Faxes page under COntrol Panel, Highlight the printer you just added, click on Share This Printer, then give it a name and then OK. Go to the Second PC, repeat all the same steps. When doing Browse for a Printer, you'll see the printer on the other PC, choose that and continue until you reach STOP HERE. You should now have a networked printer. If I goofed something up or it doesn't work, I'm sure you'll let me know. Good luck.

Not sure about the Lexmark, but the wireless HP's have a Network Setup Wizard that is accessed from the front of the printer that works similarly to Windows. You set up an Ad Hoc (without router) network and seek the available networks...it finds the nearest, you select your network (his laptop) and finish. Much easier than it sounds. There should be step by step instructions with screenshots on the CD or in the paper manual. Pam

I asked Comcast how to setup wireless router at my house if I only had iPad. The tech will use his portable pc to do it. Same thing with your printer. Or u can borrow someone's pc?
