Eric, I just leave the bath towels on the warmer all the time. It would be a bit of a hassle remembering to move them back and forth. Smaller hand towels and the bath mat hang on other towel bars or rings. I have the Runtal automatic controller. It allows you to program different on and off cycles for each day of the week, multiple on and off cycles per day, and to control the temperature setting. Since I'm a creature of habit, the week days are all programmed the same, but at the weekend, the warmer comes on later and goes off later, as I tend to get moving later on those days. If my schedule deviates from normal, I can easily override the programming. The warmers in my guest rooms are programmed to be on in the mornings and again in the evenings, but off during the middle of the day. When I don't have guests, I simply set the temperature to "0", and they don't come on at all. The controllers are hidden away in cupboards or closets, where they're out of sight, but easily accessible, so their appearance wasn't a consideration. If you choose to go with a Lutron timer, be sure it's one rated for a heating appliance, and be aware that it probably won't provide as much flexibility or allow you to control the temperature level. I usually don't operate my warmers at their highest setting, and I appreciate being able to lower the settings on them during the warmer seasons. I've been totally happy with Runtal and recommend them.

We're in AZ, so everything dries within 24 hrs or less. We always had bars and folded the towel long-ways in half and then over the bar. It was always dry by the next morning in this doubled manner. When we redid the old bathroom, I opted for a bar again for myself (because I also have a washcloth) and a hook for DH because he's not a very neat folder. His towel was still always dry by the next morning. I could see the mold potential, but if you get one of the big hooks that holds the towel out a little from the wall, I don't see how it would differ from the depth of a bar from the wall. In our new house, we're currently sharing one bar on limited wall space and I fully plan to switch DH to a hook again when we remodel. We also didn't have a hand towel bar when we moved in, so I just put up a removable plastic hook for the meantime. It's worked out very well (as DH ALWAYS removed the towel from the bar and didn't put it back) and I plan to hang both bathrooms' hand towels on hooks permanently as well!

Not exactly a robe hook for me, but something I was determined to use for something else but was concerned about the original finish. The original finish was Satin, much like your robe hook (which I love!). No complaints, worked like a charm. Since then I've used Krylon Satin Clear on sooooo many things around the house. Protects the item, easy to apply, almost goof-proof and very inexpensive. And because it's a Satin finish, doesn't make the item shiny or plastic-looking. A Bunny wall plaque. (I can take a pic and post it if you'd like to see how it turned out). It is a smaller, sorta round plaque with lots of detail but because it's a smaller plaque, I wanted to make sure the detail would show. Tried it all lots of walls. Never quite liked where I tried. Don't even remember what sparked the idea but I decided to use the plaque as a trivet for either utensils while I'm cooking or to set my hot tea pot on while I get the cups ready for tea. Made sure the plaque was super-clean and dry. VERY LIGHTLY from about 3 ft. away I sprayed the plaque...VERY LIGHT FIRST COAT. I let it dry for several hours. Second VERY LIGHT coat. Dry. Third light coat. I've had the plaque clear-coated for awhile now and I don't have ANY yellowing, no flaking of the clear coat, no damage of the plaque or clear-coat from the hot tea pot and I've washed the plaque many, many times in the sink with dish soap and a teflon sponge to get dried stuff off that got dripped on it.
