Thanksgiving Buffet & Table Decor

Got the turkeys out here today & added this brown one from last yr w/the chicken wire cage...he's struttin' his stuff!

The tapered candle I bought the other day on a shopping trip w/friends...I got it because it has a 'timer' in it...so I don't have to take it out of the candleholder, loosen the bottom like the tapered one I showed you on the porch wall shelf post. The pumpkin garland I got last yr after season & the brass candleholder is a TS find:

Here's the right side of the buffet ... pretty plate & pedestal bowl are TS finds ..I have a bowl on buffet shelf to match the plate:

The squirrel/flowered candlering are now the centerpc on my table ... also I am using that beautiful 'leaf runner' that I showed you awhile back...a purchase from TJMax. The acorns are after Christmas ornies I bought at a specialty shop:

Very pretty! Love the brown turkey and his neat cage!
And what great TS finds in that lovely plate and the pedestal bowl. Pretty neat you had a bowl that matched the plate too!

I saw this somewhere online, and it made me think of you with all your pretty dish sets. I like the idea, tho with Jazz I'd probably have to glue mine. LOL.

You always do SUCH a fabulous job on your buffet designs. It's something I admire as I can never get anything like that just "right". It always looks odd, unbalanced or really scary cluttered to me. lol
I'm coveting your squirrel as well. Absolutly love him! but that's another of my "favorite things-critters".

slinkey thank you...:) I said 'struggeling' because I must have moved stuff around a hundred times in the last couple of days...and I am still looking at it, especially the diningroom mantel and black side board and it's just not quite right...lol My boys just look at me and shake their heads...I also noticed in one of the pictures I forgot to take the price tag off one of the fall leaves I got from Michaels...lol My personal favorite is my coffee table arrangement with the swan...I got that little swan earlier this year and he is just so versatile and can be incorporated in so many ways...:)

Thank you, holiday-ers! ladypat...yes, I wish that t'cloth could talk! Can you imagine? (on someone's table 70 or 75 yrs ago!) phonegirl...working woman...you're up & fixin' ...this is the first time I've used placemats on counter...we're all just a bunch of Enablers R Us! (mmmm, pretzel & broccoli salad sounds good!) jane & luvs...too funny about our ceramics! I loved it! & it was an evening with "adults" ...good memories, too. Thanks for the compliments...while the greenware was wet, my teacher taught how to "lift up" those feathers with a tool & then it was fired or whatever before painting. PM...that turkey was the TJMaxx 50% off ...so $6.50 that I got just recently...remember, I think it was YOUR doings that brought it to my home! LOL! Thanks! oak...I started collecting Jewel Tea in mid 90's ... because I got a few pcs at MIL's estate sale...the hunt has been fun & my china closet is full...altho there's lots more out there! OA...cringe! Red wine! LOL! Everytime I put it on the table I kind of "blank" it out of my mind...my kids don't know the value...but the value is just "using" it! My DS broke a glass a couple yrs ago & now he won't drink out of Jewel Tea glasses! LOL! They make fun of my dish addict syndrome, I think! Jeanne S. ok, I must get off here & peel potatoes! :-)

No worries Sushipup. I understood what you meant. It is not about the company or family, just the method. Platters and casseroles can fill and clog a table over-stuffing it. Every family is different. Buffet style would not work with my family of 'grazers'. Dad would clog the line by staring, oohing and ahhing, nibbling and asking "what's that?" over and over trying to get focus through his trifocals. Then all would just take tiny bits of each and have to get up and go back for 2nds, thirds and fourths or more. A challenge to get them all sitting down. So DH carves at his end of the table and serves little slices as that's what they ask for, while i bring out the 2 gravy boats and the sides and two containers of cranberry for each end. Turkey goes into the kitchen for furthur carving while i serve. I sit at the other end of the table near the kitchen but the sideboard is just a spin behind me for a resting spot if needed. Also for a small platter of more turkey slices. No doubt needed in a few minutes. : ) I set my table a day ahead with all my serving dishes. Vintage Eva Zeisel and CathrineHolm that i love and like seeing it all on the table. Minimal and modernist. I plan what goes in what. Never a loaded table and i just use a small bunch of my favorite flower, tulips. Three candlesticks...EvaZeisel. We always make about double the amount needed depending on 6, 8 , 12, even 24 guests. I can seat 12 easily but anything over is buffet style. (Dad goes last, lol). Over 12 is chaos so anything goes. Have not done that in years...one was 35. I just put out about a third/half of what was prepared and keep the rest in the warm oven. Usually plenty but can zip into the kitchen to re-stock if needed. I bake my dressing in two oven proof casseroles, one is small for the table and pretty! : ) The roasted root veg dish can often have over 12 varieties depending on what the market has. I cut each in slightly different shapes so i know what is what. Always the talk-of-the-table and curious and delicious. And always something new i find. A new variety. This year is a baby squash that is supposedly deep concentrated orange almost red. That dish has to be on the table. So i can answer "what's that?!". Traveling guests visiting just for the day get a take-out container so they have leftovers...

There was also an apothocary jar--perhaps I should've picked that up instead. BTW, what does one use an apothcary jar for? Is it ever filled? Like with popourri? Perhaps I should just leave it blank until I can find a nice vintage piece--like a toureen to give some color. Any one have a quick and inexpensive temporary idea until I can find just the right thing? I did buy some gold ribbon with wire so that I could dress up some crystal pieces or just weave it around in an interesting pattern. Or use the pillar candles and them move them to my tub afterwards. Help! I just have to say a big thank you for all the advice these past few months. It is really helping to make my home come together since we remodeled it this past year. DH said to me last night, I thought you didn't want a mirror and I told him I saw so many becautiful examples of sideboard mirrors on the decorating forum, I changed my mind.

Jeanne...as always your buffet looks so beautiful.
Everything is so warm and welcoming. The pretty plate, brass candle holder. I didn't know they had tapers with timers...now I'm going to look for those (enabler). I have a few but they have slide switches on the back of them..I think timers would be so much better.
Love how you put 'our' turkey under the wire basket...are you keeping him safe...or just keeping him till Thanksgiving!! lol
Still loving the finish on your Squirrel..it shows off the nice detail on him. He's a great piece to do different vignettes with.

I like the simplicity of it with the added splash of color. Nicely done.
Yeah...with Jazz around, I think you'd have to glue the whole thing together and down to the table!

Jeannie, beautiful buffet decorations. I love the turkey in the cage and I am envious of that beautiful squirel. Lovely TS dishes too. Dollbaby looks great too. I really like her outfit, even if it is short sleeved. You did great girl! TFS Janet

Thanks, Holiday-ers! Gosh,. Tksgvg is just 2 wks from today! Can't believe how fast Fall is leaving me behind! LOL! I am fortunate that all our family plans on coming home (weather permitting).

PM...that stacked cups & 3 sizes of plates is really, really elegant-looking...love it w/those added faux flowers...this would be a fun project w/mixed pretty old dishes picked up at garage sales or something! TFS!

milo, jane & janet...glad you love that squirrel...I'm glad I bought it even tho I pd full price...so I will keep using it quite a bit.

punk...that leafy plate & leafy bowl that match also has a big cup with it...it was a GS find a few yrs ago & I was hoping I'd come across more of that pattern (a couple yrs ago I didn't have as many dishes! ;-) Stamped on the back w/"Home Trends."

Jeanne, A cup too?Yea...Home Trends is very nice dinnerware and that is a lovely pattern. Sure hope you can find more. I love the turkey in the cage. That candle goes so well with everything. I love the new squirrel on the tr.

Did DB stay in her dress today or change so she could go outside.LOL

Love all of your Thanksgiving decorations, but especially like that turkey in the wire cage! Everything looks so inviting...really like your table runner too. I have got to go to TJ Maxx sometime....always forget about the one here.

I do love that 'turkey,' too! He's very versatile to use ...I think slinkey jane must have subconsciously 'enabled' me!

marlene...I love shopping at TJMaxx (so I try not to go very often) ...about 30 min. away ...I always figure it's a 'bargain' of some sort there...& I hit the clearance aisle alot! :-) They have so many odds 'n ends of holiday & dishes there! I just did a t'scape last night w/that leaf runner & Woodfield plates...will post in a bit.
