Well I'm glad to see that this thread is still going. As with Blondboy I forgot about it. In regards to removing pups from the mother corm, I simply put a shovel right between the main stalk and the pup. It was that simple. Now I would wait till the pup grows to about 12" before I tried that. The pups need enough of their roots to survive. Blue265 thanks for the info in Angelo's I would never have thought to walk in there for banana plants. All we need now is a local source for some hardy palms!

I think the supplier depends on the store location. I've noticed the Home depot on the island gets plants from a different supplier than one in Houston that I stop at every once in a while. And a lot of our "big box" get plants from local suppliers, which I found surprising. I bought a beautiful bromeliad that came from the valley last week at Home Depot. And I've gotten plants from a nursery outside Tyler at Lowes. I'm not concerned w/hardiness so I'm no help there. Whatever it is it is a pretty one. Good luck with it. Tally HO!

But things have relaxed a bit nowadays and no one seems to be monitoring things. Just don't be surprised if this thread gets pulled. They consider mentioning a company name as a form of advertising, regardless of the intent. As for seeds or plants - I used to shop everywhere online and couldn't wait to see that box waiting for me on the porch when I got home from work. But now that I've lived here for 9 years I know my way around better and can find just about anything I want locally. Even the hard to find obscure organic/heirloom vegetable seeds from Baker Creek are now available off the rack at my favorite downtown Raleigh Garden Center (Logan's). For mainstream summer annuals I shop at all the garden centers on the south side since that's where I live, with Bbs down in Sanford and Campbell Road on Tryon being favorites. For truly unique odd ball stuff I hit Plant Delights which is conveniently nearby. I have one favorite place I still shop at back in my home state of Oklahoma (Bustani Plant Farm) but I usually pick stuff up when I am home visiting relatives. I shop differently now than I did in the past. My garden is pretty full so now I seek out the plant online and look for sources. When I see something that I think will work for me (often from a thread here on Garden Web) I google the heck out of it and track down a source. I have splurged and bought seeds from all over the world that way. But I no longer have favorite seed or plant catalogs.

Pepiniere Jasmin - on Henri Bourassa in Montreal La Ferme Floral - in St. Bruno Pointe Claire Nursery - in Pointe Claire You need to visit these nurseries early in spring, as most of the unusual or new varieties are sold out very quickly. In the Toronto area, you can try: Fiesta Gardens - downtown on Christie Angelo's Garden Center - in Concord Plant World - in Etobicoke Lakeside Garden Gallery - in Brampton Again no mail order. Clearview Horticultural does provide Clematis to growers throughout Eastern Canada. They are sold as small plugs in 2.5" pots and grown on to 1 or 2 gallon plants. You won't find them as finished plants in Eastern Canada because the cost of shipping 1 or 2 gallon plants is prohibitive, In passing, C. Crystal Fountain was available from Dominion Seed this past season. It will be more widely available in 2007. If you really need a mail order source, you can try Botanus in the spring. They resell the plugs from Clearview Horticultural.
