O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!! Show your Christmas Trees!
Comments (57)Thanks Susie :D This cheers me up,too! Hey Kirk, that's what the tree looked like when I was growing up. We planted hundreds and hundreds with our mother it seemed like, even staying out in the woods til well past dark with all sorts of wild animals jumping around at us out there,(back then it was moonshiners you ran into on your property, now it's meth labs) and it was scary when you're only about 6 or 7 years old! I never inherited my mother's ability or want, to wander alone in the woods til wee hours of the morning. After I was married and lived here, we still cut down our own trees, until trespassers stole all of them(to sell, I guess)one year. Some grew back up from the trunks, but we didn't feel like fooling with them any more after that. The smell is great, there's no comparison to a live tree, but we broke down and got an ARTIFICIAL pre-lit one :D lol Too many allergies, they dried out quickly, too. Boy could I tell you some FUNNNNY stories us and the kids endured with live trees ( one year involving a crazy Himalayan cat we had :D ) I can't wait til next Christmas!oh and I see Carol's tree skirt! It's just perfect. Cherry/Kudzu...See MoreI need to build a Christmas Tree
Comments (9)Sorry, I have been out of town for a week, so late in responding. I actually sewed on the buttons and the carrot had some greenery attached that I stuck through the batting and wired to the tree trunk. The batting is the thick batting, almost 1" thick and I used an artificial tree. The rings holding the branches were stapled to the trunk, so I pulled the staples and dropped every other branch onto the one below, creating a double branch and a void where the branch was that I then used the wire clotheshangers to shape the balls, attaching the ends to the tree trunk and then shaping the batting around it. The tree was prelit and I strung another clear strand inside the balls and used a flashing bulb, so his insides blink on and off. The 2 bulbs inside the head where his cheeks would be are red bulbs, so he has rosy cheeks when the lights blink on. I made him in 1993 and just store him in a tree bag in the basement during the year. He is also standing on a 3 legged table with the legs sawed short and the front 2 legs are in little kids snow boots. I do use a garland wrapped around to fill in the gap between the tree and the table top, with another piece of batting wrapped around the table edge under the garland. He was featured on the Angelo Surmelis 25 Decorating Ideas Show a few years ago. Thanks and hope this helps, Candy...See MoreMore Pictures 2007
Comments (21)Just beautiful. I don't know if it is a Southern thing or what but I love a tree that is loaded with ornaments. When you have more than one tree in your house, it is about the ornaments not the tree especially if the tree is artificial. We can't go out and cut down a beautiful spruce or frazier (SP) tree, we have to rely on those shipped from the north and they don't always hold up so I opted for the artificial. And I love ornaments, especially the handmade ones so I have a tree that is fully loaded and it is on a revolving stand so you just stand in one place to get a view of each one. I love the snowmen also. The last time I saw snow in Florida was 1993 and was able to scrap off enough from the cars to make a snowman about 12 inches high. I really love the tree topper on the snowman tree - are those buttons? And the tree with the little red and white dresses - they look crochet and are the cutest, and the mantle, and the garland over the door - OK, I love all of it!!...See MoreCC's Foyer
Comments (8)Oh my, Candy, its almost 2am here and you sure know how to share some eye-opening decor. I may never get to bed with all the pictures to keep me coming back to see what I missed. I think its wonderful you put a Nativity in EVERY room. Is there a special story behind that tradition? I most definitely envy you that ledge above your door! What a great place to decorate, and you certainly did it justice. Love, love, love it. Along with your Nutcracker foyer. That idea to cover tins to make drums for the Nutcrackers to stand on is really a winner! Another one for me to save in my own Christmas Planner. And that's one whopper of a stocking on your front door. If that gets filled, you won't need any gifts under the tree. LOL. The table vignette in the last photo is sooo pretty. You are quite the Christmas Queen. I sure got lucky when I found you! LOL. hugs, Karen...See Morejeannespines
