Trying to remove BING from Firefox.

It is not in Extensions or Add/Remove.

I searched and found 2-3 ways to remove it, but nothing works for me.

I read that you first have to remove it from IE and I did that.

I tried the suggestion at the link below.

It says to type about:config in the address bar, then in the filter bar that comes up type Keyword.URL. Another window opens with some text in it; erase or delete that and replace it with http://www.ehow.com/how_5196325_remove-firefox-work-way-used.html and click OK. That should remove it.

My problem is that I can't erase or delete; if I try it goes back to where I was.

well that is NOT what it says to replace the text with it says to replace the existing text with

What you posted is the link to the article.

open a firefox window type in about:config in the address bar and hit enter

in the filter search line then type in
keyword.url

it will automatically bring up that line
double click on the entry in the list which is keyword.url

that will open the box that you need to alter, the contents of the box will be hilighted blue when it comes up just hit delete key and it will delete everything in that box, then copy and paste this entry below into that now vacant box line

click OK

If you find using the entry provided above does not work follow the directions as above and after clearing the box try copy and paste this entry into the vacant box and then click ok.
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=

there are NO spaces anywhere in that string, if this reply splits it into 2 lines make sure when you copy and paste it that it is all one line and there are NO spaces.

Personally I would use this string on the first try, it is what is in my firefox and it is what other sites recommend to use, I have not tried it with the string suggested on your linked article.

Its still a fun place, its just that sometimes common sense and simple reasoning just doesn't happen. How many times have you been asked a question and hd to repeat the answer many times over and over. A search here isn't the best, but it does show many bits of useful info if someone is wanting to know a quick answer. Try to type in a couple of key words, like for bing cherries, the two words could be typed in the search box. It brings up threads of many posts about the same words. Not every thread has the words, in each titled search subject, but its a start. I'm not the 'King' of anything, but you must admit that if you post here and get continual redundent questions it can get on anyones nerves after a while. In the past, I always SUGGEST doing a search, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. Some totally ignore my posts too, so I don't feel that I have overstepped my SUGGESTIONS when asking others to make it easier on themselves to get a bit more info before posting a question. Every summer, the posts for pickles, especially dills are many and they seem to just ask the same things over and over. Fermenting brines, are also quite common. A search for the words 'DILL PICKLE' will bring up thousands of pots too, and I bet that every single question asked about them as been answered already. If you read through the amount of duplicate posts in a single day, its hard to ignore the issue of redundency. Sorry if I have offended anyone, but I am blunt, frank, and to the point with no nonsense answers.

Morning all, Raybo, First off, congrats on all your press out there. You've really taken a simple design and "Mona Lisa'd" it!! Actually, the BER really wasn't that bad...maybe twenty tomatoes out of 400 or so. Will see if I can find the C-Tex for next year. And no, no fall garden. Tried it last year with dismal results. I sure learn a lot on this site and it's fun to compare notes with others. I used hydrated lime which I picked up at a farm CO-OP. Next year I'll use Dolomitic lime which tends not to affect PH as much. As I told Raybo above, in hindsite, I really didn't have much of a BER problem after all. I think out of a total of 400 tomatoes or so, I only had to cull about 20 which had BER. Most of these were the Parks Whopper CR, same plants I had trouble with last year. However, I'll continue to grow them next year as they produce a perfectly shaped, tasty and large (10-12 oz) tomato. Their production is really good also...15-20 fruit per plant. It it were me, I'd continue to use the lime. The Black Cherry were good but others liked them better than I did. I was really disappointed with Opalka. Had heard so many great things about it but for me, production was very poor. The Kellogg's Breakfast was really a disappointment. Very bland, almost tasteless. Of course, one year's experience doesn't really mean much as the weather was really not normal this year down here. So...I don't mean to belittle any of these varieties, maybe they just don't do all that well where I live. Or...maybe I don't know what the hell I'm doing!!!! Cheers! here are some links for you to look at which may help, no promises unfortunately. Hotfix Download Available you did not mention if you are using IE6 or 7. Similar problems and resolutions note this is specifically for 2000 based systems, it does give info as to causes for this type error however. have you recently upgraded your windows media player? in some cases it seems to be causing those type errors. Readme for Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP Also please try this, go to your browser and clear out what ever you have in it for your home page, change it to google or msn or some well known site, or leave it blank, clean out all of your cache, temp internet files, cookies, history, etc in your browser, close all instances of the browser and see if that makes a difference. One thing that definitely is causing this is an improperly scripted website so it is possible that what ever site you have as your homepage could be causing it. Also please make sure you are using the very latest version of java, if not update it. you can use the secunia tool to see what needs updating. Online Software Inspector You did not mention which version of firefox you are using either, if you have not moved to version 3 yet there was still just a new update for 2.0 versions, have you done all recent updates to your particular version? 2.0.0.15 is the latest version of the 2.0 firefox. Do you have any added toolbars on your browser such as yahoo, etc? if so try removing them restarting browser and see if that helps. You should be able to go to add remove programs and get rid of toolbars. Yahoo has specifically been named in many instances. Since this is often a badly written script issue there are a LOT of things that could be causing it which is why there are so many things to try. Please let us know if you get results.

I just purchased a new computer and only Bing shows up as the browser, but I'm sure if I access Google, or Yahoo,or something else, it would work. Actually, I can still search through AOL search - it's the Homepage that automatically comes up on my screen at startup. Not sure why you wouln't be able to access anything else while still having Bing. Oh, actually, I know I can - at work, I have Google up and did a search on Bing, and used it that way. I see that I made a big booboo with the replace text; I sure do miss "copy as HTML link"

Okay, I Googled Bing to find out what it is. Now how does it get on our computers and how do we know it is on there?

The default search engine for Firefox is Google. To reset it back to Google if it has been changed, just right-click on keyword.URL and select reset on the pop-up menu. HTH.

unfortunately that method does not seem to work for everyone once the dreaded bing has taken over, however it is the easiest thing to try first.

how it gets on there? many times it is through various downloads or updates we do, these days more and more are adding toolbars as part of the install and if you do not pay close attention and uncheck those extra items you end up with things like bing, ask toolbar, etc.

I've gone through the instructions 2-3 times and still have BING. Tried with each of those strings, but no luck.

When I finished and hit OK I expected to be sent back to the page where I started, or something. So I closed out, and rebooted. Still have BING.
