In Text Advertising

Is anyone familiar with this spawn from hades that has somehow got on my computer. Any ideas on removing it from windows 7. I have Binged/Googled and tried some remedys all to no avail.

GW has an explanatory link for you.

Look for this statement at the bottom of the page:
"Click here to learn more about in-text links on this page."

(The words "click here" are the active link.)

Thank you for the information. It is absolutely OK with me if Computer Help Forum and others choose to use In-Text Ads. It actually works to their benefit. However, my problem is this crap is on my computer for almost any site I visit. Including my website www.tnhorseshoepitching.com. I can assure you that I did not purposely allow In-text Ads on my site. And the opt out feature does not work for my site. I expect I got this invasion by downloading a "bittorrent". I ask again, does anyone know how to remove this from a windows 7? It was clearly planted by a third party and I wish it gone.

Good news for those of us that use firefox with adblock plus with Ricks easylist subscription. I found an old post by Rick about these exact ads on a forum, Rick has passed away of course but his work is being continued. Here is what he had to say. "I ABSOLUTELY HATE THOSE!!!! Those text-popups are always a priority for me when I add to the EasyList when I go surfing (and thanks for the kudos guys :-) ). I'm sure many others besides myself use the mouse pointer like a finger in a book. To have a stupid window keep popping up over the text I'm trying to read is worse than 10 flash ads on a page ... at least graphical ads don't block the page text. Opera's content blocker takes care of it. Chrome can take care of it. K-meleon doesn't have the problem either. Ads are a part of the internet. Fortunately there's ways to deal with it so far.

Grubby_Me I am not sure what your point is. People are not whining about anything. Ads and especially popups make using the system difficult. People show their appreciation by participating and making the website a success. Thanks for the adblock link. It installed just fine. As to this forgery screen that was popping up on me... I know now that it was one more virus ploy and that if I clicked on either of their two fake buttons I was opening the door for them to download their garbage on my system. I did a system restore back to where I had not clicked on their stupid screen and most of the new programs they had added disappeared from my control panel. Hopefully that has taken care of it.

I got an email back and will cut and paste the suggestion here: (I did it and it's working so far.) I apologize for any inconvenience these ads as have caused you. We appreciate getting feedback from our members, and I have reported the pop-up issue to our community manager. In the meantime, you should be able to opt-out of the in-line (green underlined) texts by following these instructions: 1. When you're on a GardenWeb page, hover your cursor on the double-underlined word, but don't click it. You will see an advertisement open in a pop-up box. 2. In the upper-left corner of the box, click the 'V' logo. A new browser window will open the Vibrant in-text advertising page. 3. Scroll partially down this page, and click the 'Disable' tab. Click 'Click here to disable.' The page should update to now say 'Click here to enable.' 4. Close the Vibrant in-text advertising browser window, then once you refresh your main browser window the Vibrant in-text advertising should disappear.

Utilizing Firefox along with its add-on Ad Block Plus is a quick resolution to most unwanted advertisements.

Sounds like a toolbar or browser add on.

Get rid of the free toolbars. Run SuperAntiSpyware.com free version full scan. Cross your fingers.

Well, they say leave a Monkey alone in a room with a typewriter and sooner or later.....I found a unverified cookie in Add ons called BFlix and disabled the rascal. Lo and behold, no more in text ads. I guess watching movies on my computer while they were still in the theater, was not a good thing!
