That would be non-negotiable for me personally. That is one of the must haves on my list because I use my tub almost daily. They need to fix that. OTOH, if you just ordered it for show to have a nice 5 pc. bath then I may let it slide and transfer the upgrade money elsewhere.

Do you have a GC? If so, what does the GC say about the situation? He should also be upset with the plumber if the plumber is failing to communicate changes to him. The correct way of doing things would be for the plumber to inform the GC and the GC to inform you.

As dekeobe stated plus it is true in reverse, you should speak to the GC and he in turn speaks to the plumber.

Sounds like you get a refund, or get to choose a larger tub basin that fits in the space but isn't on their normal spec sheet... Talk to your GC about your options.

Thanks for the responses. Hubs and GC are working the house split down the middle. GC gets us the referrals, we manage all contracts and sub selection. GC gets less than 8% because we want full authority over contractor variances. We are on all paperwork, exclusively. We write all checks.

GC and Husband were on the phone with plumbers when I left. The 'garden tub' that they deposited at the work site has a 9.5" fill line to the overflow. What we ordered was 14.5". Width is 22" at bottom, we ordered 27" at bottom, fluted to 29.5".

Huge difference. I got even madder when they both decided to just stick with what they gave us and take the credit with the plumber. I wouldn't have asked for a garden if I didn't want one. I'm more upset that they chose not to say anything and not give us any time to make a different decision.

I decided to leave the work site in order to let them work it out. Seems like a tiny thing to some, but I have a few children that will use a tub daily.

Does anyone else feel like they have to make concessions on every single thing!? I'm OK with making compromises, but I'm getting frustrated at giving in on almost every little detail.

One more thing: the new reason we got standard shells is because the garden tub we chose had been discontinued.

Instead of it being a space issue, it's a product issue. My personal opinion, someone at the plumbing company needs to get on the horn and find something comparable, STAT. Am I crazy?

Your aren't crazy. (Though, you did choose to do an atypical GC arrangement).

We are control freaks (both spoues, and I). He has a lot of time between working and we didn't want to pay change fees every time we change our minds as the process evolved.

Our GC is pretty much an on site problem solver when my husband is at work (he's a pilot and can be gone for 4 day stretches), and an advisor.

We don't have to worry about side deals, up charges, change orders or being left out of the process.

I think we got a steal of a deal, the guy is a genius at workaround solutions. The bad side is when something I want gets cut, it's the husband who did it. I had to stomp my foot over the 36" gas range, 2 person 4'X7' dual headed & dual hand-held shower, tray ceiling in master, vaulted master bathroom, and the 6'X11' food pantry. I understand that those were costly, but I finally got them.

A lot of other things got cut, and I can live with them because they are things we can gradually do later at no cost increase vs doing them now. Taking a shower/tub shell out later and replacing it with a garden would seem silly.
