you can choose to opt out of the advertising which is what I did, The page it leads to for the opt out was red on my wot warning but all I did there was the opt out and left.

yea that is the part that is so annoying that you will have to do it over and over again. Hopefully adblock plus will block them. I do not see them, have they started putting them on yet?

Grandms it will not appear overnight, likely as the business gets touted more adverts will begin to appear.

Raven not sure how Adblock can do anything after all it is simply using words the poster would have included in any message. Careful driving with the mouse will keep them at bay hopefully - apart from the opt out of course.

I do not see the ads with Opera 10 either, but I'm also running with the MVPS hosts file which stops a lot of ad servers right there.

those directions instruct to block java script but if you do that you will affect how other sites that use java script show up so you may not want to do that.
The part where it lists the names to put in the block list is a good idea and in firefox you can add them to the cookies blocked area. Under the privacy tab, accept cookies hit the exceptions button and in that box type in the 3 names given and select to block them using the block button.

Good news for those of us that use firefox with adblock plus with Ricks easylist subscription. I found an old post by Rick about these exact ads on a forum, Rick has passed away of course but his work is being continued. Here is what he had to say.

I greatly dislike the power links, and am glad AB takes care of most ads with FF. However just for thought, if Garden Web stops using ads and bans the use of power links how does it pay its bills? Isn't it true that the vast majority of the sites we regulalry visit on the Internet are commercial sites? For those that weren't here when this forum at one time became a pay-for-play site the member response wasn't pretty.

No power links on IE8, FF 3.6 w/AB or Opera.

still not seeing any so adblock plus with easylist is taking care of bizness!
Since I have cleared my cache since doing the op-out and not done it again I am assuming it is adblock plus.
I clear my cache pretty regularly so that would just be an annoyance to have to do opt out each time.

I find it interesting that GW is complaining of slow downs and are not relating it to the additions of all of these new ads. That would be my first assumption, ads are notorious for causing slow downs.

I chose the "opt out" option. I am useing IE and I don't see the adds/lines anymore. They started showing up for me yesterday - and the "opt out" worked great - and simple.

I can't see anything. Firefox & Adblockplus must be working.

Thought I would check a little further, the IE6 at work (Yes six! Our IT people are really on top of our work stations)did show the power links. My IE8 here at home shows nothing.
