Toilet Recommendation for *tiny* bathrooms

Our little house was built in the 60's and has two identically arranged and *tiny* bathrooms. Both bathrooms have old Eljer toilets - I have no idea when they were installed, but they use at least three gallons per flush, if not five. Both are tempermental and yucky as well, and I'd really like to replace them.

But, I need a very small toilet! These are approximately 26 inches from wall to front, and so many toilets I've seen are 29 inches or more. I found a recommendation for a Kohler toilet that is the industry's smallest, but it has terrible reviews.

I'd ideally like to spend less than $300 per toilet if possible. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Here is a photo from before we moved in - please ignore the previous owners' decor - I don't have a more recent photo :)
