What To Do With a 14' RoughIn and 12' toilet

I have redone a bathroom and would like to get a toto toilet based on the many positive reviews I have read and they were the first company to come out with a decent flush valve/design when the trend started to decrease the amount of water used. The only problem is that they only make them with a 12" rough-in. My plumber suggested a Gerber since they come with a 14" rough in and he says that he hasn't had any problems with them. I don't know much about the gerber brand except what my plumber said and a comment on the web that stated that is why plumbers prefer them...they need to keep coming back to fix/repair them. Is there any way I can have a 12" installed and not incur any future problems? What is the reliability of gerber? Thanks
