It's not too hard to spoof an email address and it's also quite possible that the account she thought was closed isn't actually closed.

There's nothing really you can do to prevent the email from being sent, just how it's handled when it arrives. Most email programs have a means to establish "rules" on how mail is handled. You want to simply create a rule that moves any email from myfriend@hotmail.com to the trash.

could be anyone, when those emails get sent around where there are tons of email addresses on them, rather than the correct way of removing all emails prior to forwarding and using blind carbon copy BCC, those email addys get harvested and the list of addresses are then sold to spammers etc for use which is why it is so highly urged to never forward with addresses on the email.

Ravencajun...you said it so well. I really dislike the emails I receive with all those email addresses on them. If the person sends me those emails then I am sure they send my address to others. I just sent out an email to a list of people who do that and requested that they remove email addresses prior to sending out the email.

I used to for a long time have in my signature line on my emails a request to please respect our privacy and if forwarding to use BCC and remove all addresses. But I found it really did not make a bit of difference the people that were doing it kept on doing it. To me if I share my email address it should be honored the same as if I shared my phone number or address and not given out willy nilly to everyone in the world. We would all get a lot less spam!

So true, raven. I don't know if it's stupidity or just laziness, but you just can't seem to change some people. All they do is hit "Forward" with never a thought as to what they are doing to others.
