Problem Blocking on Windows Mail

The past two months I have been receiving an email from SIL...her email address is ----@hotmail.com. Well this certain email had a trojan on it and I deleted it right away. It came to my Microsoft Windows Mail 6.0 and my msn.com email accounts. I told her about it and she said she did not send it and true it was received by all her contacts. She immediately deactivated the account and started a new email address with yahoo.

Here is the problem I blocked it on my Microsoft Winndows Mail account and on my msn.com but, it is still arriving in my JUNK file in Windows Mail. Is this good enough...I delete it immediately. Also I have to mention that it goes my husband's email addresses also. Anyone else have a similar problem? I would like to block completely! It has not arrived in my msn.com account since I blocked it.

It still comes from my SIL on her hotmail.com account. Strange!

It's not too hard to spoof an email address and it's also quite possible that the account she thought was closed isn't actually closed.

There's nothing really you can do to prevent the email from being sent, just how it's handled when it arrives. Most email programs have a means to establish "rules" on how mail is handled. You want to simply create a rule that moves any email from myfriend@hotmail.com to the trash.

Thanks Mike...I will take your advice and create a rule for it.

But, who is sending the emails....she isn't...

It seems to me as if instead of being on the page where you sign into a preexisting account, you're on a page where you create a new account. If true, then the account really is already taken, by you. :) Can you sign in here? https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=mail&continue=https://mail.google.com/mail/

How do I BLOCK and incoming e-mail

Do you mean block all his emails? There should be the option in Outlook Express to do this. In Windows Mail you go to "Tools" on your email window, scroll down to "Junk Email Options", find "Blocked Senders" and "Add", then add his email.

I blocked someone because she persisted in sending me multiple forwarded mail, full of dozens of other people's e-mail addresses. I don't like to receive these things because I got a virus this way once. I usually will respond the first time someone sends me one of these things and ask them to please use the "bcc" function in their address book for all their addresses, strip out all the previous e-mail addresses in the multi-forwarded message, and then put their own address in the "to" box. In this way, everyone who receives this does not see anyone else's e-mail address. Spammers just love to get these forwarded e-mails because it gives them more addresses to add to their list. But anyway, I asked her as nicely as I knew how. Sometimes people get mad at me and won't e-mail me at all after that. Sometimes they just ignore my request. Seems to be no happy medium and I'm at a loss to explain why. Good manners dictates that before you add someone's e-mail address to your forwarding list, you ask them if they mind. Many people do not have time to read a lot of the stuff that circulates and prefer not to get them but are uncomfortable about saying so for fear they will insult the sender. In this instance, she disregarded my request and in fact started forwarding even more stuff to me. She was a lady from my church so I decided the best thing to do would be to block all her e-mails. The next Sunday at church she came to me and asked my if I was mad at her. I told her I was not. She then said, "Then why did you block my e-mails?" So, I was disappointed to find out that, in my case, using Outlook, there was, indeed, a message sent to the sender that their message was undeliverable because the receiver had blocked them.

The postal service is playing catch up. They are so far behind it isn't funny. They get a credit line from the feds which they have to pay back. Like I said, they aren't costing you money but all that money is allocated and congress has to vote them a bigger credit line when they refuse to let them raise rates. When I was a kid in the early sixties I had lots of friends elsewhere( we moved ALOT) an airmail stamp was $.10. Today when you figure for inflation that would be $.84. Does that put your $.55 in perspective? I am not a fan of postal management. It is toxic, but so are most major companies. Not a fun job. FYI you don't have to get mail through the PO. Take down your box if you don't want to participate. No law requires you to have a mail box. You wont get notices from the IRS or SS or other federal entities at the moment but you also wont be irritated by the failures of your mail carrier and no junk mail. You wont be able to get any sort of welfare but you probably don't get that anyway. There are other package delivery companies although UPS and FEDEX use the postal service to deliver packages to a lot of their customers instead of delivering themselves, cheaper for them. Your decision. Oh I meant to address before the tired carrier who didn't finish the route. Christmas is the biggest mail volume of the year by far and in the past they brought on extra people and paid over time which they no longer do. Christmas also has bad weather and is the darkest time of the year. Carriers for safety reasons can be required to finish their routes by a certain time to get back to their PO by a certain time, and being slowed down by a bazillion packages and bad roads they hit the magic hour and have to turn around and even though the same people get stiffed every day? You carrier might protest but in vain. Relief carriers who fill in for your regular can service multiple routes. So your regular who delivers to you five days a week has to know everything about several hundred customers. The relief person usually has to fill in for several regulars and therefor has to know everything about-well multiply it out. They make mistakes like delivering to an address that is on hold. Some carriers are just jerks or lazy like ordinary mortals.

could be anyone, when those emails get sent around where there are tons of email addresses on them, rather than the correct way of removing all emails prior to forwarding and using blind carbon copy BCC, those email addys get harvested and the list of addresses are then sold to spammers etc for use which is why it is so highly urged to never forward with addresses on the email.

Ravencajun...you said it so well. I really dislike the emails I receive with all those email addresses on them. If the person sends me those emails then I am sure they send my address to others. I just sent out an email to a list of people who do that and requested that they remove email addresses prior to sending out the email.

Thanks for your valuable input...You always come through with excellent information.

I used to for a long time have in my signature line on my emails a request to please respect our privacy and if forwarding to use BCC and remove all addresses. But I found it really did not make a bit of difference the people that were doing it kept on doing it. To me if I share my email address it should be honored the same as if I shared my phone number or address and not given out willy nilly to everyone in the world. We would all get a lot less spam!

So true, raven. I don't know if it's stupidity or just laziness, but you just can't seem to change some people. All they do is hit "Forward" with never a thought as to what they are doing to others.

Do not send emails with email addresses on it...do the following: (thanks to Raven)
