When do you turn your Outdoor Christmas lights on?

So I spent the whole day outside with my daughter putting up garland and xmas lights...I am a little early this year as I wanted to get them up before it got too cold out.

But now I think it is too early to put my lights on so I wanted to know when you turn your outdoor lights on for the holiday season? Or maybe its not?

I turn mine on on the first of December, if DH has them hung by then.

Without fail ,ours come on the day after Thanksgiving.
Even though I try to have the majority of interior decorating done ,sans the tree, I just don't feel right skipping right over T-day itself and lighting the whole place up.

Small town life sounds good to me. As does living in the country. We had a few acres when I had horses and other animals back in the 60s and 70's. Phoenix is soooo big, too much traffic, and I hate driving even if it didn't cause my leg to go on the warpath. I was born in a small town, in Ala. I don't really going places alone either, and won't go out at night except to family gatherings at one of my kids. I'm waiting the arrival of my toile plates I just bought. Tho heaven knows what I can find to do with them, but will try just because of all the support I've gotten here. Any table settings I do will be just for ONE, maybe two if you're lucky. LOL. I'm going to be a one-trick pony, sorry about that. I just can't do full tables for many reasons. I've been 'planning' my Christmas decor. Really planning this year. Thought it might take some of the load off me being so over-whelmed with it when I go to unpacking a zillion things in the middle of the floor while telling two cats NOT to help me. A zillion times! One sleepless night I started plotting different places to put things this year. I want my newly begun collection of Nutcrackers (started last year) pretty much together. But I think the purple one should go with the Santa. And I have two golf Santas and two golf Nutcrackers that should stay together. Last year they were with my two other special Nutcrackers, a policeman and a fireman. These have a lot of meaning! I'm going to put my Village in the antique china cabinet in my entry hall this time I think, instead of Painted Pony Cabinet in familyroom. Tho I still have to move over a 100 statues from BOTH. I was thinking of putting Xmas horses and reindeer in the pony cabinet. I have quite a few of both now. Anyway, its fun to mentally decorate. It also doesn't wear me out or hurt my body. LOL. I think I'll start my Village next week in fact. First I have to make room for all those dog statues to safely go on closet shelves for the next two months! Ugh. hugs, Karen

Usually the first weekend in Dec.But this year there will be no lights on the house,now that i think about it,there were none last year either.Both dh and i are too old to be climbing ladders,he had a stroke a few years ago,and i have bad knees.So now i just put the lights for shrubbery all over my picket fence,and decorations in the yard.Works for us. dedtired, that's the "old" Annie. I used to decorate everything, indoors and out. I have Christmas mugs and Christmas platters, Christmas dishtowels and Christmas bowls. Ashley has a huge collection of snowglobes, probably 50 or 60 of them, and Amanda has nearly that many nutcrackers. Amanda doesn't even put them up at her house, LOL, they stayed packed in the basement this year. Ashley didn't get anything out either. ?Several years ago I realized that I just dreaded Christmas, I was learning to despise it with a vengeance, all the commercialism, the glitz, the hoo-rah. I spent so much time fiddling with decorations, baking cookies, mailing cards to people I haven't seen for years that I didn't have any time to enjoy any of the Christmas things I really loved. So I stopped. Now I watch the Muppet Christmas Carol and How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Charlie Brown. I bake cookies with the grandkids and I go to the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service and the family Christmas party. I even gave up the "Christmas Eve party for 40 family members where I did all the cooking". This year I blew $75 and rented the townhall and everyone brought a dish to pass. Now with Elery's family I have "Christmas stuff" to do with them too, so I need to have some time for that. So, now that I have Elery and his family to add to the celebrations and Dad's gone and the grandkids are here and Ashley's mostly gone, things are changing. What will Christmas eventually become? Darned if I know, but every year it changes just a little bit..... Annie

Next year if I plant more seeds I'll start them outside directly and just see how they do. We had such a very weird Spring this year for our area that I couldn't move anything outside til almost mid June. I did have several false starts, but we were a lot chillier than I can remember for a long time. I'm hoping for a longer growing season next year!

I'll be decorating the outside of my house this weekend. Will turn on outside lights on Thanksgiving night. I've got my living room tree decorated and the lights are turned on right now. All other interior decorations are in the process of going up. Very early for us this year as we usually decorate after Thanksgiving, but with our schedule it made more sense to get the decorating out of the way.

Dec 1. Electric rates here are very high, so that is soon enough!

We turn ours on Thanksgiving evening. We always use timers so all I have to do is go plug them in before the guests start leaving.

We have several inches of snow so I'm not sure how much more will get put up this year. We are all electric so don't notice the lights making our bill go up much.

The day after Thanksgiving I try and get my front porch changed out and the lights up!! they get turned on tht night

DH puts ours up right after Thanksgiving, while DD & I work on the inside decs. We turn them on then, which is the weekend after Tday.

Big switch over is the Friday after Thanksgiving - outdoor fall decor gets taken down and garlands and wreaths start going up. The lights go up that weekend if weather permits - from then on we just keep adding and tweaking. Hubby has been working on his tomato cage trees this week so that they will be ready - this is a busy time of the year .....

Want to know when mine get turned on? When I beg and plead and bribe and shame DH enough that he finally gives in and puts them up! LOL What works best is telling him we need them up for little GD's enjoyment. ;o)

We even installed these neat little clips that pop out to hold the cords so he can just string the lights along and they will hold them--and he only needs the step stool for the ones over the garage door--but still he procrastinates!

Maybe this year I'll bribe him with a homemade chocolate pie--that's his all time favorite dessert. ;o) Men!!!!!

(I would do them myself, but then I would be doing EVERYTHING myself from now on!)

I'll turn them on as soon as I get them all installed. I do it in parts as it's too much to do all in one day. Hopefully they'll all be up by Thanksgiving weekend. I'm happy to see that all my neighbors with spirit have been working on there's all week.

luvstocraft, I think I may have the clips you are referring to. The ones I found this year have a nail and you nail them to wood and they can stay up all year as they are white and blend right into the woodwork.

Electricity is almost free, so I install mine after Halloween and turn them on by Thanksgiving. I run them from 3:00 PM until 4:00 AM..
