GE Single-Double Oven

Does anyone have one of the GE Single-Double ovens and can give feedback on it? I am especially interested to know if the size of the oven is a problem. GE ProfileÂ 30" Single-Double Wall Oven

Model: PT925SNSS or PT925DNBB

This sounds like a great idea, but the salesmam I spoke with at the appliance store says he hasn't sold one of these yet!

On the floor models I saw, the top and bottom doors were not lined up, but this could be because they get a lot of abuse in the store. Are they well-made?

A while back I saw this oven in two different stores on display - Both times, I thought it looked well made.

One of the displays was in a wall display with a 22Lb Turkey displayed in it (cardboard of course!). For someone with tight space, but, desiring two ovens....it looks like just the ticket.

The other display had it mounted below the 30" GE induction cooktop. That looked great, too, but- when you opened the bottom oven, you were REALLY close to the floor. Might be an issue for older folks...

My shopping buddy, who currently has the Maytag Gemini was very interested in it, but, in the end opted for a single wall oven combined with an Advantium to get her second oven. If she had gone this route, she would have still needed a microwave - so she opted for the other combo...

Interesting concept though!

Yes, I'm looking for a 30 inch. I like the appeal of the single/double because most of the stuff I bake just needs one rack. I like being able to heat a small oven as opposed to a large one which I rarely need.

We have had the single/double oven since early October 08. Someone questioned the heat from self-cleaning the oven in regards to how the controls imbedded in the glass oven door might hold up. We have never had a self cleaning oven that Hoperates as cool as this one while cleaning. Doesn't get hot, must have to do with the forced air circulation. Self cleaning is very good compared to the last GE oven. The interior being a dark gray doesn't seem to show soil as quickly as the old GE light gray interior. The inside glass window actually gets clean. They heat quickly, bake well, very practical for us. We like the convection roast and pizza bake features, also the slow-cook option. The fan operates at a high speed during baking, once oven is off and cools below 325 the fan slows to a whisper, unlike the old oven which operated at high speed until oven was cool. Ovens are very well insulated, stay hot inside for a relatively long time. Lighting is very good. The smaller upper oven is great for most of our cooking. The lower oven great for a turkey or large dutch oven cooking. Don't have too much experience with the regular convection feature. I think it is very well built and I don't think you can go wrong buying this unit, unless you need two big ovens. Let's face it, sometimes lighting a big oven for a small item is a real waste.

THANK YOU! I really appreciate this! I have had to rethink the addition to my kitchen since the bids came in too high, so trying to fit everything into the smaller original footprint. This will help. Sadly now I have a 36" gaggenau induction cooktop and a 30" Wolf single wall oven (new, floor models) to resell before I can buy the Ge products. I thought I was so fortunate to snag those at the time, never dreaming how much it cost to add on.

Thanks for that, Iowacommute! My Miele-built in oven just died ($1400 for replacing a couple of knobs that quit working and won't turn off; amazing), and I'm looking around. Have seen many, many compact double ovens in other parts of the world and would love to buy American (as the parts for the foreign ones are so expensive). The GE could be the ticket. I took the last hour looking at every brand mentioned on a couple of appliance websites and GE appears to be the ONLY one making this. Thanks again! LL

We have owned one since October of 2008. Several months ago there was a thread here about this oven, to which I replied. We find it to be a fine oven, bakes well, very well insulated and constructed, does a great job of cleaning, exterior of the door does hot heat up very much. Bottom oven is plenty big for a large bird, has slo-cook and convection features. Upper oven has a pizza mode, wonderful. Shelves are strong and ceramic coated, so they can be self-cleaned.
It fit exactly in the space of our previous 30inch GE, which was terrible at self-clean, using same circuit.
We made a great choice.

Would you please tell us more about the upper oven. I believe in other posts you mentioned a fast preheat time. I have looked at this oven a number of times and love the fact that both the upper and lower elements are exposed. Tell us more about the pizza mode. I know I would use the smaller oven almost exclusively and from what I have seen the larger oven could easily hold the largest turkey.

The book says upper oven preheats in 4-6 minutes to 350 degrees, I Haven't checked it, but you certainly don't have to wait for it. There are two pizza modes: fresh or frozen. I used it 4 or 5 times for fresh, at 450 degrees, baked very well, browned evenly top and bottom. I also don't like an enclosed element (too slow in heating.) I have baked pan loaves of bread, successfully, I notice if loaves are rather tall, I sometimes put a piece of foil on top to control the browning. You have to use judgment, since oven is not tall.(Upper oven) Excellent for casseroles, etc.
I especially like the self-clean, old GE had a large non gasketed space at the bottom of the window, probably didn't get hot enough, so door and window cleaning was not good. This one is well sealed, cleans well, and the door stays relatively cool.
It is an improvement.
The oven fan is not noisy, once oven is turned off and oven cools a bit, the fan reduces speed to barely noticeable. A good feature. The old one roared on for a long time with no reduced speed.

I have a GE Monogram Dbl.Oven & it is quite noisy when on. It takes 20-25" to preheat. I called about this & was told this was normal. Have had the repairman out twice for door & hinge issues. They've been replaced once and am currently waiting for parts to repair the door again. This time it got stuck midway. No children in the house & have never had oven issues in 40 yrs. If I had to choose again, I might reconsider my choice.
The fan takes up inside space which limits some of the bakeware I used in my previous (whirlpool)which I loved.
