I have a Whirlpool Aqualift gas range. I've had several brand name ranges in my lifetime and ALL EXCEPT THIS ONE cleaned like a charm with their "self-clean" or "continuous clean" feature. This Whirlpool range came with this brand new house when we bought it in 2016. As anyone who knows me could tell you, I've always kept my ranges clean. And with just my husband and myself living in our homes, I would generally only run the self-clean or continuous clean twice a year AT MOST! With THIS range, when it came time to do my first cleaning, I was excited to think of using this "new and innovative" new feature called Aqualift! WHAT A BUMMER! It ONLY cleans the bottom cavity where you pour the water. It's doesn't clean the edges of that cavity or the sides of the oven or the oven ceiling!!!! And now, five years later, I have a very dirty oven because foods just get burnt on even more although I use the Aqualift once or twice a year - AS I'VE ALWAYS DONE!! And it is such an insult to be told that we just need to clean it more often!! It's 2021!!!! We don't pay good money for ovens that must be cleaned THOROUGHLY after EACH use!!!!!!!!!!! At the VERY LEAST, Whirlpool should have given customers a great big warning in red saying YOU MUST CLEAN YOUR ENTIRE OVEN THOROUGHLY EVERY TIME YOU USE IT OR IT WILL NEVER BE CLEAN!!! But we all know why they didn't do that - BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD BUY THE RANGE - THAT'S WHY!!!! ............Is there anything we can do? They owe us BIG TIME! ................We're considering another move and I literally fear that some gal will love this house and think it's so clean and nice - then she'll open the oven door!!!!!! AQUALIFT COULD LITERALLY AFFECT THE SELLING OF HOMES!!! If anyone is acting on this situation legally, please comment & let us know what we can do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Macmom . . . read through the threads that come up by searching "smelly clothes" or similar, and I think you'll be able to forestall any mold problems. I used a new Maytag FL in our last house for the last 5 months we were there and never had a hint of mold. Because it belonged to the new owner, I was super careful with it. I always left the door and the detergent drawer open after using, so they dried out, and checked under the seal for leftover water. I used Charlie's Soap and 1 oz. softener plus white vinegar in the rinse. My towels got increasingly softer and fluffier the whole 5 months! I don't have any experience with Kirklands, so can't help there. That said, I'm so glad to hear you're pleased with your Samsungs . . . we chose the 328 models (without steam) and can hardly wait to move in and use them! After a year of apartment laundry room or dragging laundry to one of my daughters' houses, I'm SOO ready to try out my new toys!

CR's reliability chart shows the percentage of each brand that "needed a repair or had a serious problem." Let's look at two hypothetical brands, "Brand A" and "Brand B". 12% of Brand A's machines suffer from a drain pump failure. Definitely serious, but if it's fixed promptly, and the replacement pump doesn't fail, you get over it. On the other hand, 12% of Brand B's machines suffer from an "unfixable" problem, such as: 1) Frequently takes an unreasonable amount of time to spin, or fails to spin; 2) Damages the clothes in some way; 3) Failure of a component whose replacement costs as much as a new machine. Brand A and Brand B will look equally reliable on CR's chart. Which one would you rather buy?

buehl, Anyone who has cleaned a non-flow through, non-flushing whole house humidifier knows exactly what I'm talking about. Kind of looks like a science fair project gone astray. I know nothing about the Whirlpool (& related brands) implementation. It's possible they addressed this issue but don't know one way or the other. I looked through the service and technical training manuals for the LG steam washer and there doesn't appear to be any flushing of the steam generator. It does have a bleed-off port, but it's only meant to be manually opened if the generator needs replacement (the generator has no serviceable parts). Fans of the LG machine seem to get good results and always point it's top rating by CR. A careful read of the CR article doesn't show one way or the other if they even tested the steam feature. Often if something has a unique feature they will highlight it in a sidebar, but no such info appeared in the article. I believe CR just tests things in pretty vanilla default cycles so it's very likely the steam was never fired up in their testing. An email to CR brought no additional info. Nevertheless, the LG performed well in their tests (most likely without steam) to the extent CR testing has importance to you.
