Pop Top Cans

I don't know if this has been posted before but I am having a ball this year making and selling these little surprise cans.

These cans (fruit, soup, dog food!) are the ones that have a pull tab at the top. First thing you MUST open the BOTTOM of the can with a SAFETY CAN OPENER (can be purchased at Wal-Mart fairly reasonably and it doesn't leave a sharp edge) Empty the contents, wash and dry them, and then refill them with little goodies and decorate the can. Seal the bottom back on. I use a product called paper effects to glue mine, the put a weight on the can till it dries.When the lucky recipient gets the can, she/he can open it by pulling the top off to find their treat inside. They will wonder how you got those little treasures or treats into that sealed can!

I sent in my list today. I have to say that there are more write in votes that I would have had if I were allowed. 'Creature of the Night' I got rid of this one because it was a flopper in my garden but it looked great this year in a neighbour's garden with adequate support. 'Elegant Candy' I find the individual blooms kinda boring but it does make a statement in a clump. It had some of the best branching and budcount in the garden. 'Flying Trapeze' This one has big beautiful blooms that you can see a long way away. 'Shores of Time' It took forever for this one to look good and this year it made the jump to great. Colour was vibrant and almost all of the blooms opened well. 'Victorian Lace' Pretty blooms that opened well but performance was marginal. It is in because I felt the need to have 5 off the ballot. 'Elegance of Summer' I have a lot of excellent full form yellow daylilies but this is the best. Every northern gardener should have this one. 'Yellow Monkey' BEST SPIDER EVER!!! This one was my most photographed daylily this year and it was the bud king with 41 buds on a scape. 'Belle of Ashwood' I have a lot of excellent full form pink daylilies but this is the best. Every northern gardener should have this one. 'Thieving Magpie' This one draws me to it every day it blooms. It is a striking flower. 'Purple Kaboom' This one is loud and proud. It was certainly named well. To me it looks like a Munson daylily on steroids.

I keep up with her blog. I get that newsletter and the notices from AHS for all regional meetings, and they had the ballot there, so I voted that way this year. It is a little annoying to get notices from all over, but a bit interesting too. kay

If it popped, something is seriously wrong. If it tripped the circuit breaker, it means the stove drew WAYYYYYY to much electricity, and if you reset the breaker it will just trip again, (assuming you don't have a faulty breaker). Most likely you do not have the DIY skills to open up the stove and look for yourself? Since you have not mentioned any smells or smoke, more than likely, you would not be able to "Spot or smell" the problem with it. Sooooo, You will havta go with "Plan B". See who can service it in your area, and check that company out Thoroughly!!!!!! You could also google your stove model number with 1243_xxx + died, or loud pop, or something similar and see if anybody had a similar problem and what the fix was. Good luck with it!!! Gary

Hello Allison...Tough question. As you know kitchens and bathrooms are the most expensive rooms in a remodel/new build project...Plus, the home construction market is very busy driving labor and materials costs up as well. Remodeling and adding-on is still the best (least expensive) way to build equity versus selling and buying new. For a remodel/addition on an existing home (no new foundations) I think you can expect to pay $175.00 to $225.00/sqft...new build construction could rum $250.00 to 300.00/sqft. One way to save $$$ is for you to be the contractor with an Owner's Building Permit versus hiring a General Contractor. Hope this helps...call to discuss further. 303.718.0722

Great idea, I wonder if I can get gift cards to fit into them? I have a 21 year old son, who wants nothing except sears gift cards. Makes shoping easier, but I do miss going to the toy department. Thanks for the great idea.

I have one of those can openers and was going to use it to
make canned reindeer last year and still haven't gotten
around to it. Thanks for the reminder, maybe I'll do them
this year.
Donna, if you still enjoy the toy department you could
always buy a small toy like a car or truck(something that
he might be into or liked as a child) and attach the
gift card to it. Last year my nephew gave me the coca cola
bear in a can and attached a blockbuster gift card to it.

You could also use a larger can. If it doesn't have a pop tab...........makes it more interesting to get it open LOL.
Most people do have a can opener. hehe
I'm a mean one sometimes.

Okay, I love the cans. This is a great idea. I have quart and gallon size paint can projects I'm working on. Now, I am saving the pop top cans. Thanks for sharing this wonderful creative idea.

Hi all. I have been searching the forums and the internet for labels for can gifts that I can print out on my printer to cover the cans. Some examples would include labels for mother's day,valentines day, birthdays,etc. Can anyone help me? Thanks

I'd love to make these for Christmas stockings! But the can openers I've seen are so expensive and from the diagrams I don't understand how you could glue the bottom back on.

Does anyone do this and have a can opener (specific kind & brand) that works? I don't want to lay out $20 or more without knowing if it will work (I don't use many cans in cooking anyway). Thanks!
