I don't understand the last post to this thread? Thermasol offers a 5-year replacement warranty on all their controllers. Why would you pay to replace it? Maybe you had it more than 5 years? If so, then it's too bad it failed but how long do you expect it to last? I doubt you could expect a car to last reliably with no problems longer than 5 years, so why expect that of your steam shower. I have a PRO-395 that I installed 14 months ago. It just failed tonight. Not sure if it is the controller board or the heating element, but it stopped producing steam. Called tech support and they are shipping me a new replacement unit tomorrow and paying for the install, all at no cost. I am going to call them tomorrow to talk to them about the fact that it failed so soon. They are supposedly the best and charge a premium for their product. I am curious how they will explain that it failed so soon. Will update this post if they say anything interesting. Update: Spoke to them this morning and they are sending me a new unit, and pay for installation charge. One other thing. Someone in the tread above talked about making their shower with a 10 ft ceiling. Don't do that! That is just dumb, and will affect the experience of a good steam. If you ever want to make your steam shower bigger, do it in the length or width but never in the height. My house has 10 ft. ceilings, but my shower has a 7.5 ft up to an 8 ft. ceiling and that is plenty high enough. The 7.5 ft part is over the bench so the fact that it is lower there makes no difference because you are sitting down.

This is no challenge at all. I've DONE a steam shower (or should say REdone-- the old one was falling apart because the tile guy never waterproofed a thing-- not even the plywood seat) where they DID fabricate the glass ceiling. I'm not sure who did it, if it was just a local custom glass company, or someone who specializes in this kind of thing. If you're really interested, do a search on Point Sebago Resort, and ask to speak to the owner. Or you could ask to speak to their head of maintenence, Ed Bartlett, who is the one that actually contracted me.

Creative Tile, I also have heard good things.....my plan has totally changed, you can search my name and find my design thread. I'm now doing a 48" neo angle. I want to go USG because they make the custom pan with the drain where I want it, and trimming these pans will obviously create some strange aesthetics at change of plane w/ wall. Problem is, no one wants to sell me one! Here in NJ, only distributor within 90 minutes are HD stores. I call them, and they don't know the custom pan exists. Local tile guy has Wedi, but very pricey, and it doesn't seem ideal for a neoangle curb, also no custom pan. I'm assuming you may have a connection with someone who will sell me one? Online USG email support for neo angle sent me back to uninformed home depot, and a general instruction which doesn't address how to wrap the 135 deg. angle. I'm going to call them one last time, if not I'll take my chances with kerdi membrane with a mud deck. 1 question on the USG product...if i go with the new ultralight foam, does it require full membrane, or just the seams? If it requires full membrane, should I just use fiberrock as it will probably be much cheaper? Any ideas how to do the 135 neoangle curb, I'm probably just going to borrow kerdi methods over at johnbridge, and use the sealant for any questionable corners . Thanks so much for your help!

I'm bumping this thread of mine to see if I could get an answer on a variant of the last question. Never really got any advice on that question anyway. All the exterior edge gaps between the shower glass and tile will be sealed with clear silicone and I'm going to put plastic/rubber strips on at least three sides of the shower door. But I would prefer not to have anything on the "strike" side of the door because it looks much better without it. I much prefer to have a small unsealed gap here. I do have a transom and will not seal the gap around the transom; if I seal the door on four sides that will be the only unsealed area. I have read that you NEED to let some cool air into the shower if you want to see the steam. Makes sense. So I guess I have two questions. 1) If I seal the door on all four sides will enough cool air get in through the gap around the transom to make the steam visible? 2) If I only seal 3 out of 4 sides of the door (my preference) will too much steam escape? __________________
