kitchen remodel- 36" fisher paykel dishdrawer

I fell in love with this dishwasher... Am i crazy? i read a lot of bad reviews on the dishdrawers, especially about the performance and service...
But it seems so practical and easy to load!
should i go with the double drawer 24" wide instead of the single drawer 36" wide?

Again, any input will be greatly appreciated!!

The biggest quality problem seems to be with the double drawers.

If you do get the 36" single drawer then you are stuck with F & P as long as you have that kitchen. F & P was recently purchased by Chinese Haier. If you decide you hate the dishwasher or the company itself you are stuck with that opening in your cabinet run until you remodel again.

Instinctively it seems that drawers would be inherently more water and energy efficient. With modern electronics and sensors that it no longer an inherent design advantage.

In fact Bosch and Miele are more energy and water efficient plus you can take out that middle and/or top rack to wash some very large items.

I'm looking at the double F& P drawers since its just my husband and myself this seems like the best way to go. They are offering until sept. a 3 yr warranty. Read on this site where a few people like thiers.

F&P does not make all the drawer dishwasher brands/models that are/were on the market. Kenmore, Maytag, and current KitchenAid (KUDD03 units) are not sourced from F&P. In the case of Kenmore and Maytag, I should say were not sourced from F&P, being that Kenmore and Maytag web sites indicate they no longer offer drawer units. They're a different design that was developed by Maytag, which Whirlpool put on the market after they bought the Maytag company. First-generation KA drawers (KUDD01 models) were sourced from F&P. F&P produces their own branded units, of course, and also DCS.

I've not yet been able to find out what exactly are the changes from the 603 series to the 605 (604 was skipped in the model numbering sequence). Very little observable difference based on a store display I examined. The flatware basket has a redesigned handle, and the side shelves may be a little different. Probably some changes on target temperatures of the various wash cycles, maybe a few engineering changes. There were much more substantial mechanical changes on the 602 -> 603 model revision, perhaps that's what your recalling? As for integrated handle with LCD vs. drawer-pull handle without LCD ... personally I'd go for the LCD. Without it, there's no feedback on remaining cycle time or what phase the cycle is in. The LCD has a time count-down and icons to reflect the cycle phase (prewash, main wash, rinse, dry). It also provides alphanumeric feedback for fault codes and setting various options (admittedly, those aren't reset on a regular basis) ... whereas with the non-LCD model one must interpret what LED patterns mean for those functions. Otherwise, the only consideration is aesthetics in regards to fitting the kitchen and cabinetry design.

Question for @dadoes who posted information regarding prism location above. Can you explain if the prism is missing how it would be re-installed and what holds it in? BACKGROUND: We had a DD24 installed in a new home and when we finally went to use the lower drawer it just chimes and doesn't run. Upper drawer operates fine. We've been working with Paykel on warranty repair, but they've been unable to help with no service provider available in our area. Being handy, I decided to take a look to see if I could find a loose connection or possibly see something awry. When we removed the lower drawer for said inspection a small piece of "plastic" fell to the floor. We thought this was odd but didn't think much of it until stumbling upon this thread. It turns out this plastic piece is the very prism in the picture above. Which no doubt is the source of our problem! So I'm seeking advice to understand how to reinstall/hold it in place... sort of thinking to the reason it might have been dislodged and/or if something might possibly be broken and what workarounds I might be able to implement if something is broken?

Oh no, that's terrible. :/ I love my DDs too. The DD I linked will take a custom panel, although it is only semi-integrated and not integrated so it will not look quite the same as what you have. I'll provide a link directly to the paneled version. I looked through AJ Madison again for you and they do not seem to have any brands that are a single DD that takes a panel other than the F&P. AJM is usually pretty comprehensive, but perhaps there is something else out there. I suggest you also try posting your question in the Appliances forum and see if the experts over there know anything. The repair rate is very high, so I didn't go this route. That being said 75/100 will be fine vs 92/100 for Bosch and Miele.

We had our first set of F&P dishdrawers for 6 years and replaced them with a new set when we updated our kitchen. Love those dishdrawers! We've had no repair problems and they are really convenient for the 2 of us.

i went to see the actual 36" dishdrawer today in a showroom and it's quite huge! also i was stunned that it uses twice as much water than Miele.
Deeageaux, I must say that your comment was quite enlighting.
it seems that i would have a shortage of option with that size.
Thank you all for your input, i think i am going to go with a 24" dishwasher, probably MIELE, since they run around the same price.

Looking at the dish drawers since its only DH and myself and I don't wash my pots and pans in the dishwasher.
Does anyone have this drawer system and likes it.I have a bad back and the reach into some DW is to low.

My DD603 is within a month or two of 10 years old. No repairs on it, although a couple false alarms. As with any dishwasher, some consumers have large troubles with them, others are highly satisfied.

F&P's DishDrawer is not as new a product as people may assume. They've been on the market since 1997, with numerous design revisions and engineering improvements.

There may be a learning-curve, particularly on loading patterns.

They can be run on a COLD water connection. Every cycle heats the main wash and final rinse water to a specific target temperature (varies per cycle).

There is a *water* heater but NO *drying* heater. Drying uses residual heat from the final rinse along with rinse aid, and a fan to exhaust moisture. Rinse aid is not *required* but drying performance will suffer accordingly if it's not used.
