You have to get a "PC Card" sized card from Verizon, also refered to as a Type II. That is the size of the slot you have available in your PC. As for coverage, check with the provider to see if they have an extended plan that will cover that area.

As for the need of a router, no you won't need one. The verizon card communicates with the cell towers just like cell phones. The towers route all the traffic from there.

Hey Fred- thanks! If these cards are so much easier, why doesn't everyone use them? Also- I see there is a limit of Kb's you can use. How would I tell which amount is good for me? How much- in time, ABOUT would a kbsb be? I know it depends on things like pictures, but give me a clue!

You can also get a USB version, which might be a good idea. Some newer laptops use ExpressCard slots instead of PC Card slots, and the two are not compatible. If you get a Type II card, it'll work in your current PC but then not be able to use it if you upgrade to a laptop with an ExpressCard.

I would recommend one of the USB cards. I am using a Verizon USB "modem" here in SC. Anywhere there is a tower that supports cell phone service, Verizon has now upgraded to support Rev A EVDO, or as they call it, cellular broadband. It is $60 per month for 5GB, so if you watch movies, it won't offer enough bandwidth for you. If you go over the limit, the fee is very high.

Only Sprint offered unlimited (and maybe Alltel) but those days are gone. AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon all have the 5GB cap.

I do surf alot at night when I am hurting and can't sleep- maybe 6-8 hours at a time. I get quite a few emails with jokes every day. I am wondering how much I average each month/day.

that should be a locator map for Verizon, I am in Texas and quite a lot of Texas is Verizon territory, in fact I was one of the first houses to get Verizon fios back in 2005 we were one of the test areas. So definitely a lot of Verizon territory in Texas.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this. If you're asking how much it takes to use up 5 gig, you're not likely to do that with emails. That's more likely if you start watching videos and downloading music and so forth.

I've visited people in Wyoming and gotten coverage, except when driving along some of the remote state roads in the mountains (I don't try using it while driving, but my daughter has used it while I'm driving).

If you have any other broadband available to you, ie: DSL, cable, or FiOS, go with one of them. I just switched to the aircard because I was using satellite and it was just a little better than dialup. The aircard is usually faster unless you are on the 1XX(voice) service. Then it may not be any faster than dialup. So a lot depends on where you are located and where you are in relation to a tower. The aircards are primarily designed for business travelers who need broadband service "on the road". But many of us in areas where we have no other choices are beginning to use this service at home. Of course, the more crowded the service becomes, the slower the service becomes. I notice a slowdown during the evening hours where I live, but that happened with satellite, too.

For e-mail, surfing, some streaming music and UTube, the 5GB limit should be okay, but as I stated before, lots of videos, movies, etc. will use up your alloted bandwidth in a hurry. There is lots of information available, so use your friend Google.
