I'm doing a small bathroom right now with white subway tiled around the tub/shower with a black slate accent stripe and halfway up the wall (without the slate), white vanity, and white tub but used black slate floors and am doing black paperstone counter. I love the dark floor (the slate is down already and the rest is going up right now).

If you didn't want to do dark floors you could also do white with some black tile accents or just do a stripe of tile accent in the shower to tie the black countertops. I'm not sure how the beige floor would go with all the white either...I can't seem to visualize that. I typically steer clear of beige next to a lot of white bc it makes the beige look dirty to me, IMHO

There's nothing wrong with a monochromatic scheme if it appeals to you. I like white baths (and kitchens) myself. I wouldn't do the extra black your designer suggested, if it were my house.

Remember the designer doesn't have to live with it you do - and if it doesn't seem right - you might end up hating it! there have been so many ,mostly white bathrooms that I have seen online that are stunning - I drool over them! If when everything is done you feel it is too white, bright accessories add a stunning pop of color that can transform the room - and those are much easier to change than tiles you aren't happy with.

I agree with qt314b. I just finished a white bath and altho I put strips of charcoal in it. I love it. It feels wide open and clean. Don't chop it up.

Thanks so much for all your suggestions, which also function as moral support! I never realized remodeling could be so stressful.

I also used white tiles for my bathroom. But I painted blue single line around the tiles with using small paint roller (about I" wide). This looks so cool.

I personally love all white bathrooms. Last year I remodeled my main / guest bathroom in Daltile Navelli Carrera Star (white with gray veins - faux marble) with white toilet, bath tub, vanity, white painted walls, and carrera marble counter. I love the all white. It always feels fresh and clean. I love the play of the white against the brushed nickel fixtures and mirror. I used deep purple towels to add a splash of color. I could also easily throw in some art work, a potted orchid, or some accessories if I wanted more color. Your bathroom will be mainly white, but you will also have beige and black. I would not be worried about having too much white in the bathroom at all.

It could be too much white. I just did a subway tile bath and we did an espresso vanity with white top, slate floors that were blueish-black and we did a strip of moasic that was a mix of white marble, dark blue and light blue tile with a darker blue wall color over the half wall of subway tile.

If you like WHITE bathrooms then just stick all white.. but my feeling is you should go dark on your floor and add a bit of color somewhere.

I don't think it's too much white, but I would think the black soapstone and beige floor that don't relate to anything else might look odd. Could you change them so they at least relate to each other? If you love the soapstone, maybe you could do a grey floor instead of the beige. Personally I think I'd use a lighter counter as well, something more grey, unless you can tie the black with something else in the room.

I like the soapstone idea b/c soapstone is impervious to spills and chemicals. Jillalameda, my "beige" is mottled -- a porcelain from Italy that looks like travertine. I could also go with the whitish tile from American Olean in their Costa Rei line. My big floor thing is finding a large field tile and matching mosaic for the curbless shower -- a field tile that will disguise cat fur and my husband's rapidly-disappearing hair. Do you have a grey floor rec. that also comes in a 2x2 mosaic?

chrisk: I will probably paint the walls a color, something in the taupe range. My sister keeps reminding me about the tile: "tile is forever, but paint you can change." How large was your bathroom? Ohh, I hate having to make expensive decisions.
