Anyone Know .. Network Magic

After fighting with my wireless connections between my Vista and my friend's Windoze Seven pc, I discovered Network Magic.

I installed the trial version of the program which is up in two more days and now, I'm looking for a similar 'free' program.

Everything has run smoothly since I have been using the program 'but' I am really not in a position to shell out the $50.00 that it will cost after the trial period is over.

Hoping that someone has run across a similar program?

It would be well worth the cost if I could afford it right now!

It automatically sets up the connections between the pc's.

Sets up file sharing and monitors everything!

If something goes wrong, (it hasn't), the program scans for the problem and solution and fixes it.

A wonderful program .. I just can't afford it right now.

it came as the trial with my Linksys but I did not use it at all no need for it and now wish it would just go away because it keeps popping up to tell me the trial is over which is a pain.

That's a beautiful flower, but $50 is a lot to pay. I love Peach Magnolia and it's fairly large at 5.5" a ML reblooming double and not expensive. Mine looks just like the one here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/99477/

My DH was watching and I finally got sucked in for the last few episodes -- so I didn't watch all the lead-ups. One thing that occurred to me . . . until recently, and for the last 32 years, I lived in a small resort town. We had one grocery store, except for a glorious 2-year period with a real supermarket, with specialty foods -- it closed. So if my one store didn't carry an ingredient, or was out, I faced a 40 minute trip to find it, or change my menu -- which in reality, is what I did. For out-of-the-ordinary ingredients, I just had to plan ahead -- for my out of town shopping trips. Harissa -- not a chance! I wonder how many other fans live in areas where Jeffrey's exotic ingredients would be difficult to obtain. Incidentally, I'm now in a town with 4 (count 'em!!) supermarkets, the smallest of which is larger than my former one!! Oh, my!!!

Not sure what the price comparable is for normal tile but looks like it would be easy? We have always tiled ourselves so can't say how it compares to regular tiling.

Sunnysmom, I did do all the categories a year and a half ago. My mindset is ever changing though and it kind of goes back to what was said earlier in the thread about other people and life in general causing distractions in the process. You did give me some things to think about- namely, what if she doesn't want something early on, should I keep it/store it for her for a later date? I just don't know. The example that was in my mind when I wrote the last post was DH's grandmother's china. Having something like that when we were first married would have been amazing as it was something we could not have afforded at that point and would have been cherished. It came to us after her passing, and after we had been married for 20+ years. While we're touched and cherish it, we don't use it because our habits were well set by that point (we've never owned fine china, and still don't use grandma's even when we host). It's beautiful and in mint condition, but what if DD doesn't want that as she establishes her household? That's an item we would definitely keep, even if we don't use it--- but what about other items? In thinking about it, I guess I don't have a good criteria for heirloom type items that we don't use, but aren't really replaceable if they are something DD eventually wants. Nannygoat, I can share my experience with letters on the chance it helps you. When I did the first purge more than a year ago, I sorted through cards and letters. It was pretty clear which ones were keepers and which ones weren't much of anything. I looked for things that contained clear sentiment, nice words, and made me feel good when I read them- nothing that was just signed (unless the card was particularly meaningful in some way), and no notes/letters than made me feel blah. That left just a small pile of cards/letters, mostly from good friends from my 20s, and deceased relatives. They went in a bag, in a drawer for safe keeping. A year later, I pulled them out and started going through them again- at that point, the realization hit me that there was almost no contact with any of those people and the notes felt like distant echos, rather than any sort of valid sentiment- because that's kind of what they were at that point. I got rid of most all of them, even the ones from deceased relatives, because again, after a year, there was nothing new there, nothing validating, just an old sentiment from a long time ago, kind of like a ghost. Time and revisiting them helped me realize that I was not getting anything out of them, even though they might seem special from a quick surface glance. My advice is be patient with them and yourself, be discriminating where you can be, and also be open to how your feelings might (or might not) change in time.

Hey Raven,

I too installed my Linjsys G. Are you saying I do not need that Network magic for the linksys to work? It is VERY annoying and I'd like to uninstall it.

Also, I have my linksys connected to my desk top which works. I got my daughter's lap top working wirelessly. I wrote down all the passwords and such and her laptop just knows to connect when she turns it on. One odd thing did happen during the install process. My desktop Vista version of Windows created something called Network 5 during the install. That Netmagic thing shows my desktop and and lap top connected thru that. Should I be worried about this?

I have no idea actually, I said no when it asked me if I wanted to use the network magic part I had read that it was just a trial and knew I would not want to have it to deal with. So I never used it, it does pop up to tell me there is an update for it and that the trial is now over etc but I just x out of it. I do see it is listed in add remove on my computer so I would assume it can be removed. When I have time I will try to take a look over on the linksys site and see what I can find out.

every computer that wants to use your network will have to fill in that pass key once when they first use it then it will remember that particular pc and they should not have to do that again unless it has been a long time in between. So that is the normal way it should work.

I set mine up on my desktop pc which is wired to the router and have my netbook and my husbands laptop set up wireless in my situation. I can not look at my desktop right now because I am on my linux hard drive not my windows but next time I am on windows I will see if mine mentions anything about network 5 or network magic I do not think it does, but since I did not use it at install that may be our difference.
I set up my network and printer/file sharing and all of that stuff manually myself I did not use network magic at all.

I just did a little googling and went to the cisco site and found this info on how to remove it, and from what I read it is not needed and should not mess anything up if you do remove it, however one never knows, and after reading a lot of negative replies on blogs it could be a problem.
Uninstalling Network Magic from the Computer

I found these directions in a reply on a forum with many many many people complaining of not being able to uninstall NM and some quite scary comments on what it was doing to their systems when they did try to uninstall. (These are not my personal methods! I have not tried it)

"Here is removal proceedure and the results:
1] Boot with the Router turned off.
2] Exit Network Magic in the Task Bar (bottom of screen)
by right-click and ÂexitÂ.
3] Run the uninstall (access from Control Panel).
Note: If you need to exit Network Security do so first
with the Router on before doing step 1.
Note: During the uninstall Internet Explorer may attempt
to launch, ignore and wait.
4] Shut down and power up the PC.
Result: Internet access no problem on Networked PCs.
Workgroup PC hangs with Ânot respondingÂ at
any attempt to open the Workgroup folders.
Perform the following:
5] Delete all items in ÂNetwork PlacesÂ on the Workgroup
PC they will refresh.
6] On the Vista PC Open Network and Sharing Center by
clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel,
clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Network
and Sharing Center.
7] Turn off all items (except ÂPrinter SharingÂ and Â
Password SharingÂ if unused). Turn on all items needed
(this refreshes ÂdiscoveryÂ on your Network.
Recheck the workgroup PC.

- There should be no more issues with uninstalling -
If you continue to have issues use ÂsearchÂ and ÂregeditÂ
to find and delete using Keywords ÂNetwork MagicÂ.
Run a registry cleaner like System Mechanic. Redo
applicable steps above. Just donÂt panic."

I am glad I did not utilize it after reading a lot of extremely negative comments about it.
I will probably just leave it as it is on my pc for now since I really do not use the windows pc that much anyway and ignoring the thing is not so difficult.

I would sure suggest some research and googling to decide what path to take.

I un-installed the program this morning using "Your Uninstaller".

I haven't had any problems with it popping up yet. (fingers crossed)

and you had no problems at all with your network or router connections? no drops or problems with not being able to connect or network? many mentioned their printer not working after they removed it.

that is very good to know and I sure hope you have continued success. I would imagine that REVO would probably give the same results if Your Uninstaller worked.

or just leave it there..I guess it does no harm....my biggest headache is getting my printer set up. My desktop is Vista and the laptop is Win 7 and I can not seam to the laptop to see the shared printer...
