Wow. How fun to get a birthday greeting. It's just after 5 am here and I've spent the last hour mopping up the floor with towels, as the roof isn't totally finished and we just had a sudden, very hard downpour. In the middle of it, when we were the most frantic and out of breath from trying to keep up with the waterfalls everywhere, my husband said, "By the way, Happy Birthday." Then we both started to laugh and things didn't seem so bad.
It's Friday the 13th.
We plan to go out to an Italian family-style restaurant with my daughter and her children.

I'm getting a new kitchen for my birthday (and for Christmas and for Valentines and for any other occasion my husband can include), everyone in my family is healthy, my daughter found a long term substituting job (worked for 2 years to get her credential/masters and then the educational system imploded), my son's law firm didn't include him when they let 40 associates go and I'm as happy as I can be. Life is good despite the waterfalls. :)

Marigene, I have an old gardening book published in 1901 and it's amazing how many of today's favorite houseplants were being grown then. Fun to speculate how many cuttings were passed along and probably still thriving somewhere today from still other cuttings. But to have an original plant 80 years old...just think of all the care and watering through all those years. Your Prayer Plant (Maranta?) is a little fussier so it's surprising it made it through those times when, if like my plants in that family, it sulks or gets brown edging on leaves. I have learned though to cut back on watering and even if it dies back it will recover from roots. The Haworthia I haven't grown but, again, I'm really impressed with its age. You are certainly a "creative" lady! I love your apple plates, really neat pattern. Gosh, you had lots of neat red things for this table, love that big red pot, pretty red handles flatware, and the ticking tablecover. Great way to display those apple candles too. How great that you had that burlap bag, it looks so cool with the apples and leaves tucked inside. Another fun table idea! P.S. your "creative gene" really kicked in on fixing up the book--we'd have never even known if you hadn't told us! LOL Luvs

"Gary, out of sheer curiosity, what wholesale HVAC warehouses did you look into around our area (though I believe you bought it in PA, didn't you?)? Is there one for Trane/American Standard you checked out (do you think you could somehow get equipment from them?)? I think I recall you saying you priced an American Standard system for around $3k and was curious where this was." Ryan: I did indeed get an A/S quote "back in the day" when I first started looking. It was a Heritage 13 3-ton (don't think the air handler was v-s) with 15 kw strip heat for $3600. It was from Northeast Plumbing and Supply. They weren't too happy that I called them for pricing as I am not a pro. I wound up geting a 14 SEER, 12 EER, 9 HSPF Goodman. Copeland scroll, and a full 36,000 btu cooling and 35,000 btu heating. I went with the 3-speed air handler and TXV. Also got a hard-start cap, bypass humifier, filter/drier, sight glass, and condenser mounting pad. Paid $2500 for everything from DESCO, over the MD state line in Hanover PA. I picked everything up from their warehouse with a tow trailer. They provide the 10 year parts warranty. My wife works for a Property Management Company so I paid one of their pros $1200 to install it. 2 guys, 8 hours each. He had to fabricate 2 custom duct pieces for the installation. $3700 total for the new heat pump. So far so good with the Goodman. Take care.

Pretty sure I've had a few too many cakes already! Oh, nuts! I was going to put the panko crumbs on the tuna and noodles last time and I forgot! They were quite yummy and I need to remember I have them instead of going on auto pilot when I make the same thing I've been making for 45 years. If there's a downside to a new kitchen it's the attraction of working in it all the time. If I don't quit eating the evidence I'll be in a 9 by summer. Some mornings I come real close to laying on the bed.

OA, Happy Birthday and sorry it started out Wet. I'm sure you'll put this in the past as soon as it's finished. I will be looking forward to seeing it finished. When is your completiton date?

Sounds like things are looking up for the kids and thats always a big relief. That's a great gift in itself. Hope the rest of your day is fun. You might want to consider leaving home for the day for this to happen.LOL Punk

Happy Birthday, OA! With that great attitude in spite of the leaks, I just KNOW you will enjoy your birthday.

You know what they say--into every life a little rain must fall! LOL And we so seldom get rain here in So. Calif., wouldn't you know it would happen when your roof isn't ready!

Just think of how much fun it will be when it is all finished and you can display more of your pretties--it will all be worth it in the long run.

You picked a good day too...my oldest son was born today, and on a Friday the 13th. LOL. He's 46 today, makes a Mom feel OLD.
