That is a Thermador Masterpiece Chimney hood.

It has mesh filters vs baffles.

Most people say mesh is better at getting grease on low but baffles are better at removing grease at higher speed.

Baffles are better at removing smoke at any speed.

Mesh are definetly noisier and most people prefer baffles.

You lose some capture area vs Prestige/Bluestar Pyramid.

I don't know if it is 304 SS or inferior 430 SS.

I think that is an older design.

Around the net the 30" is sold out as far as I can tell.

Only 36" and 42" left.

I was afraid the capture area would be smaller. Our kitchen opens up to the family room so capture area and noise are pretty important.

Sure is pretty though!

Can anyone think of one with similar looks that might work?

I think Modernaire has one --but this looks like it might be seamless and I'm nor sure theirs would be seamless, unless you paid an upcharge.

I am having to readjust my kitchen plans and am now looking for something similar to Odie. I will have a 30" range too and a hood that's not too bulky.

What is the major difference between the look of this and the pro chimney hoods by prestige and bluestar, is it that the bulkiness is gone? I wish I could see them side by side. Is the chimney also narrower?

Dear odiegirl13, It looks like the hood you like in your inspiration picture is only 20" or maybe 22" deep. It looks different from the Prestige because the Prestige is 24" deep and is higher from the bottom edge to the start of the chimney, providing more capture area. There are many manufacturers who sells hoods similar to the one in your inspiration picture -- Bosch, Electrolux, Best, etc. Many of them are less bulky and more streamlined pyramid hoods than the Prestige. See, for example, animalia's kitchen hood (one of my inspirations on GW). They do pull fewer cfms and have less capture area than the Prestige.

Check out Kobe hoods. Mine is a 176 or 179 and looks similar. It has baffles.

francoise47 - theanimalia's kitchen is one of my favorites as well. I have looked at it many times.

sayde - I will check on Modernaire. They make some amazing hoods. I thought I had it all figured out until that photo distracted me.

zillapgh - yes, I think for me the pyramid hoods are bulkier and maybe that is what drew me to this other style. The chimney is definitely narrower. I wish I was better at visualizing the hood in my future kitchen.

I might look around some more just to make sure I know what I want. As much as I love this hood maybe I need to stick with the Prestige for the capture area and CFM's.

Okay, one more question. I think I would also like the wall chimney and now DH is interested. Do I still want to stick to the Pro Line? It costs a good bit more than the wall hood and I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative that would perform as well.

I only have 8' ceilings so I am thinking that the duct cover will only be 12''. Will that look okay?

Vent-A-Hood makes some very nice chimney hoods; I've been very pleased with mine.

I think without question the Pro Line is the best.

There no point in saving a few bucks to get significantly worse performance.

So what is out there that is significantly cheaper and almost as good?

I think it is the Kobe RA 02.

You get almost the same capture area,almost as quiet, 1000 cfm, and baffle filters.

It is 430 SS not 304 SS.
It is a bit thinner.
It is made in Taiwan.

But the last complaints I have read about Kobe were from 2002 nothing recently.

There are lots of complaints for VAH for example. And they insist no more than 30" above the cooktop while Kobe says the RA-02 can be placed up to 36" above the cooktop.

You may not find it as aesthetically pleasing as the Thermador though.

Thank you so much for your research deeageaux. I may just stick with the Pro Line. I just wish it was cheaper. The Pro Line 30'' quote I have is $2250. I guess at this point, what is another $600 to my budget!!!

I recently installed an imperial brand pyramid style hood with 1270 cfm and twin blowers over my 36" BS 6 burner. It is quiet and powerful and is high quality. You'll find these on the internet. FIFW, I found the best price at vent4less.

Worst piece of Chinese made Garbage!
Order took three months too arrive. Entire place is run by some guy named Spencer who does not return phone calls.
Hood arrived damaged. Company will not respond. Have filed with Credit Card Company as well as the BBB.
Stay away. Spend a little more and get venta-hood made in America and from all I have read great customer service.
