some 'new' decor purchases

Two friends and I went to the antique mall and I found some Holiday decor to bring home. Obviously not antique, but who cares. :o) Tho this "wild turkey" pair, think they are turkeys, might be old. I got them both for $8.

Metal Witch Boots candle-holders....loved these! And the pair was $10. The owl was $4. He's got kind of a purple tint swirled in the black and is very sparkly. I BETTER decorate for Halloween or my daughter is liable to confiscate the boots as she likes witch stuff too.

I wish I'd remembered to take a photo of a wonderful Elf Santa I found. He is soooo neat, and has a little frog prince sitting on his shoulder. The frog and the Elf are
ceramic or porcelain, and his body is poseable. Jason's wife loves cute frog things and I bought this for her....but boy, its a good thing I love her so much. I really was super tempted to keep it!! It was only $7....what a steal I think.
I'll see if Jason can take a pix for me, otherwise might have to wait till Xmas decorating if she's already put it away with her stuff.

I LOVE the metal Witch Boot candle holders - very different, and the
owl - hmmm purple swirled in the black.....seems these were made with you in mind! lol

Great finds! Those turkeys are very interesting. Lots of detail. Also love the owl and witch's shoes! I love owl decorations, and so does my grandma. Witch's shoes are so cool for Halloween, it is actually one of my handmade card designs this year:

To qualify for the Federal Tax Credit of $300, the system must be 15 SEER minumum and 12.5 EER minumum. See link below. The XL14i and 15i would qualify if matched with the correct air handler. 37,800 btu-hour is slightly over 3 tons (36,000 btu-hour). The XL19i is a dual compressor system. The first compressor runs at 50% of rated system btus while the second compressor runs at 100% of rated system btus. These are supposed to be good for humidity removal. Most systems are single stage compressors. The 19i is top of the line with a price tag to match. What are your delivered electric rates ($ per kw-hour)? What are you doing for heat? A few years ago we remodeled our house and so also needed to find ways to merge the new and old. Having a theme and some consistancy in terms of overall style and color scheme is very important. Get the bones right--as furniture can always be updated as you go along. One thing I never did, though at times wish I did, was to consult with an interior designer to help me with my color choices. Some of the best advice I received here on this board was not to rush it and take it one step at a time. Good decor is an evolutanary process that happens over many years. If you are putting in hardwood floors, then one of your first decisions may be to choose some area rugs and use those to build a color/fabric palate around.

I read an article on this site not long ago (can't remember where now) that I thought gave some good advice. Buy a couple of high quality pieces. Really nice sofa and chair for example in a neutral color. Then accessorize and add color with less expensive pillows and smaller more original pieces from flea markets as others have suggested or even second hand stores. If you spend some time browsing photos on Houzz and start an idea book you will soon see the similarities in what you like or don't like. Even colors you gravitate towards. So you could get some nice pieces and ideas from Ethan Allen but don't buy everything from them. Fill in with less expensive and unique pieces. It will keep the room from looking like a showroom. Also once you pick fabrics or pillows you like paint stores (at least my local SW) is great about helping pick out paint colors. I think you could very well pull a room together based on an inspiration photo and help from furniture and paint stores. I am no whiz at decorating but I have learned a lot from reading these forums. Good luck and have some fun with it :)

Never I implied these lamps are cheap:) (mine are..relatively...since I don't buy new ones)I implied that rugs are more expensive..:) But if you like them and he doesn't care that much-that's all I needed to know. I quite like the shades..i imagine they give a good light.. Does it have furniture yet? the guest bedroom? tan, vibrant blue green, black...a bit of reddish gold... interesting thing-I happen to have a Pinterst Board dedicated to these/similar colors.. what's bad it's mostly inspiration pics of pallettes..just a few products..and products -I'm not sure he'd like let me see what I can try and put together.. say if to keep bedding cream.. and say smth like this for the pillow (btw bedding can be dark too. depends on his style, furniture..etcetera. but I agree to keep it simple. oh no I just remembered! one of my friends refused to sleep on dark sheets said she needs pastel colors. but a) happened to me once, and b) she's a girl. (I know I'm too. we actually have really similar tastes. That's why I was so shocked with this pastel thing about bedding.) so maybe cream, just in case. or two sets-light one and dark one, as mood strikes, and whoever visits) and say these are some curtains then.. ..maybe smth like this for a rug? it's leather-twined..I like how color picks up a bit of this flame impression from artwork and lamps..and it's masculine..suitable for high traffic..relatively inexpensive.. then the bedding gets to be say, pebble or ivory ..and green, you repeat very easily. a plant..maybe couple books can be some pothus or jade..these never die.. (these are neither pothus nor jade lol..I just liked the colors, green plus terracotta. very unique! lol)

KAREN, I wonder if I threw out some corn, your turkeys could fly to NC? I love them. Are they as large as they look in the pic. Almost as large as the wild one I saw yesterday. Your halloween treasures are great finds too. I decided that I was going to paint one of my little villages from DT in black for halloween like the one on pinterest. I used green and purple glitter paint in spots. I"m not finished yet, but I think it will be cute.

Janet, the male turkey is about 10" high. I took the photo of them on my bathroom counter, not the floor, so
not as big as you thought. I think your Halloween Village will turn out wonderful with the glitter added. :o)

My daughter saw the witch boot candleholders today and loved them. So I let her take them (her birthday is Monday, so made a nice little extra gift along with the planned gift card).

I got a picture of the Christmas Elf that I gave my DDIL, so here he is. He's about 18-20".

Love those turkeys, Karen. They'd be right at home with mine, and the ones that frequent the field behind my house.
And do i like those witch boots? Oh yes I do! They would be perfect in my house, oh darn, you gave them to your DD
DD3 gave me an owl about 5yrs ago before they became so popular. I bring it out every year but I don't really feature it. I guess I should.

Karen, so glad to hear you and a cpouple of friends went on a shopping spree. Even better to see your new finds! Sweet set of turkeys. DF's have 20 wild turkeys at their place and wish they'd fly the coop. However, I enjoy seeing them.

You've always liked witch boots. What a DM to give them to DD. The owl is a great find and will be so fun for your Halloween decor.

Oh the Santa Elf is adorable. Your DD knows she's got a DM who loves her with that find. I'm thinking I might be lucky that DD doesn't enjoy decorating for the Holidays right now! I just hope that one day DGD can convince her all my stuff is worth keeping.haha

All really neat finds! Glad you had some fun shopping time with your friends. Such a sweet Mom to part with both the witche's boots and the elf. Fun to put a smile on both the gals faces, huh?
