$1300 a room? Wow. Glad I don't live where you do. Have you shopped around to get other quotes? I have the wires run for sound in several rooms (set of speakers > to each room's wall control > to "home base" where I'll have my audio stuff), and I paid $130 per room to have just the wiring done. TV cable and data were $60 per box by the same company. I'll be charged $55 per hour for them to come back and install my own, internet-purchased system.

I'd check with another company, that's for sure.

I have never read anything negative about Sonos except for the huge price. We installed some wall and ceiling speakers in the living room that are connected to the (what used to be called) stereo. I bought two logitech squeezebox receivers and a sqeeezebox boom for the kitchen. These do what the Sonos does, but are much cheaper. Also, like the sonos, they can be remotely controlled with an iPhone app (iPeng). Bestbuy has the boom on sale this week for $150.

Thanks Traceyb and Duluthjeff. It looks like I need to do a little research. Unfortunately, it seems like there's no easy way to get a quick handle on the subject and I'm just not interested enough to invest the time it would take to really figure it out. I think the appeal of Sonos is that I can understand how it works. And while I started out thinking it was expensive, it seems darned reasonable compared to the quote I got from the electronics installer. The Logitech looks promising as well. Thanks again!

We are having the Sonos system installed next week. This is the one area that my DH took the reigns on, and I happily spent no time learning and/or researching. He is a huge music/audiophile; so, the whole AV hook up was very important to him. He researched all the stuff out there a lot, and he settled on the Sonos system bc, I think, he thought it was the easiest way to run all your components together with your computer, or something like that. I'll let you know how it works and how user friendly it truly is. I have no patience for gadgets or high tech things; so, if I can learn it, anybody can.

Our household is set up like gobrono. DH handled the research for our house audio. He decided to use the sonos system. I believe he said it can get expensive if you want different music playing in different rooms. But if you are okay with the same music everywhere with a volume on/off switch in each room then it's not that expensive. I know it was nowhere near $1300/room.

We were able to put speakers in 5 areas-outdoor patio, mater bath, exercise room, pool table room and kitchen.

The receiver will be in our office. And he said something about playing the music from our itunes and being able to choose music on our iphone.

Thanks gobruno and pps7. I dearly wish I could get DH interested in this project but I'm afraid he's a proud Luddite. I've tried studying up a bit but once I start reading about Cat 5 and homerun wiring I just want to take a nap. I think the Sonos may be the ticket. Can't wait to hear how you like it gobruno!
