Can Anyone Tell Me Whats Wrong w/ My Plants?
Comments (7)hi & thank you both for your responses. i do not own a cat so thats ruled out. I have other plants that are planted in an organic soil type thing which on the bag states is a mix of "compost bark, sphagnum peat moss, pasteurized poultry litter, and an organic wetting agent" that are doing quite well. do you think i should replant these 2 in this type of soil? the room my plants are in is approx 16x18 and the only source of natural light is through my sliding patio doors. the room temp is at a constant 65 degrees Fahrenheit. i dont know what could be causing those burn marks on the leaves of my janet craig, its kept in a low lighted corner. the pot that the pachira is in is 7"tall x 6"diameter, the tree itself is 13.5" tall from the soil line to the top most leaf....See MoreWedi, hot mop or membrane?
Comments (5)Wedi is a fine product (except for steam showers), but it does have to be detailed correctly. It'll be the most expensive of the three. CPE or CPVC membranes are more common, and much less expensive than Wedi. You mentioned cost being an issue, but you can feel safe with a CPE membrane as long as everything is installed properly. Just make sure he does a mud preslope, then puts the membrane on the sloped mud, then covers the membrane with another layer of mud. Too many people put the membrane flat on the floor then put sloped mud on top of that. The membrane itself needs to be sloped. Here's a pretty good primer on the steps for a CPE membrane shower. Note that in that installation, there are no fasteners at the bottom of the cement board on the walls. Also no fasteners were used on the inside face or on the top of the curb. You don't want holes in the membrane in those spots. Hot mopping is pretty much a west coast thing, it's not accepted here in New England. I don't even know if they slope the hot mop or not. So, if you want a topical membrane and as a result the better method if moisture control, go with Wedi. If Wedi will blow your budget, feel comfortable going with a CPE membrane. Just make sure the membrane itself gets sloped. Hot mopping? I can't advise on it. It works. But I'm just not that familiar....See MoreWhat can you tell me about this house
Comments (24)Yes, all old houses have histories and usually interesting ones. I started out researching the census for this townhip, and then found some 1835 atlases. Here she sat in all her glory. I own a business at this site too, and the elderly customers from this township were more than happy to sit down on a hot summer day and share their recollections of this house from their childhood. I found out that there was a one-room schoolhouse about a quarter mile down the road, and in the early 1900s, the teacher would send two boys with buckets to our property to pull up water from the spring house for their day's use in the school. I also found out who owned it initially and that he was the first mecantiler in this township. That led to more questions, and another fellow down the road said his store was in a wooden building right across our drive to the road. It was moved in recent years to an intersection down the ways and was a little general country store. That the original roof was wood shakes, and later found them when we had to replace the roof. Found the original owner through tax records, and the owner who built the store and lived here, where he was from and on the inet, got an accounting from an descendant who gave me their life's story. Half of the family died off from tyhpoid fever. Followed the family through old local newspapers on microfilm and found out his son was a mayor of the nearby town and owned a shoestore. More folks came by with pictures taken during the Civil War. Found deeds where it was purchased by a coal company and mined, and found out it was the stopping point of the first road built in this township and used as a road house. On and on. It really adds to your appreciation of the house you call home. Makes you also make a firmer commitment to keeping it up, because you are living in history, literally....See MoreHas anyone tried ecloths and their mops
Comments (7)I broke down and purchased the ecloth mop, kitchen "sponge" and glass cleaning kit. I wasn't sure which one to buy but snagged a great deal on ecloth. I didn't expect to be impressed but my glass cabinet sparkles. I have never been able to keep streak free and it is spotless. The kitchen sponge works nicely - can't tell if it picks up the germs but works to clean. I also like the mop - best part is I can use the same handle to try Norwax later as the mop heads fit both systems. I bought an extra head so can toss into the washing machine....See Morechispa
