'Little Joe' Joe Pye Weed: how little, really?
Comments (11)Kate, your post didn't list the number of feet. Thansk for the input, everyone. Maybe I will leave it where it is this year to see what it does first. Assuming it is not too hard to move when it is 2 years old. When I googled it I saw a picture in someoneÂs garden where they had harnessed it into being tall and thin with double plant rings. ThatÂs something that could work too in that place in my garden. ItÂs more the spread IÂm concerned about, as my garden is an island bed and there is no more horizontal space. I planted it as a backdrop for some wine-colored daylilies, but whether it will bloom at the same time I have no clue....See More'Little Joe' Joe Pye weed
Comments (6)it gets huge. at least 5'. We had this exact conversation 2 years ago, but its gone now. I tried pinching mine early in the season as an experiment to keep the size in check, but it didn't work out. It delayed them way too long and they were too small. I divided and moved mine last fall to at least be in back of the border so the height didn't block out other things. And it is pretty and a butterfly magnet, but watch out! This is in August where the section on the left was not cut back. The two sections on the right were cut back. Not sure just when. Its written down somewehre....See Morecouple of average joes
Comments (1)Very nice. Sometimes it's good to just have some generics like this. They bloom and are attractive and have no pedigree issues. I know I take chances with them (front yard, public places, loans, gifts to newbies, etc.) Joe #1 reminds me of an Edi M but I think the leaf tips in the first picture are different. My AG grew out pretty lanky and then was crushed by a falling large Candystripe. Then it was relegated to a spot without enough sun. I'll probably start it over this weekend. I did find a couple of rooted cuttings from the original plant blooming already....See MoreWhy I LOVE Joe Pye weed 'Baby Joe' !!
Comments (82)Mine I'd say is about a week less advanced. My issue with getting uber growth on these is my deep digging, I enjoy turning the soil over to a good deep depth and removing stones and heavy clay, sometimes the plants say more than a "BIG" thank you! Is that the helianthus I spy? I lost mine in one of the few years we experienced winter wet, the ground remaining unfrozen and becoming saturated wet in late winter early spring, I lost several perennials then....See Moremrsmarv
