Fox sports browsers

I follow the NFL news on Fox sports on the internet. When I open the website I get that half-page ad saying "Enhance your experience - your browser doesn't provide you with optimal viewing experience" and then the IE, Chrome, firefox , etc. logos are there. I cannot close the box, it stays open for about 1 minute and I haven't opened any of the logos because am not sure what will happen. Have others experienced this and how do I get rid of it .... most frustrating!

I don't suppose you'd care to tell us which browser YOU are USING?

Are you viewing msn.foxsports.com ....or another Fox site? It makes a difference.

Are you using Firefox and running NoScript?

Hi,

What browser and version are you using to visit the site?

I went here,

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl

and had no issue, Firefox, version 26. windows 7 Home prem.

well changing your home page on any browser is a very simple thing to do so even if it does change your home page when it installs you can change it right back. Plus on some browsers, firefox for example the first time it opens after install it goes directly to the firefox page to let you know that the install was done correctly however it has NOT changed the homepage to that page. Many people think oh no it changed my home page, nope it only does that on the very first time it opens after that you go back to what ever home page you originally told it you wanted or what ever one you had on the other browser you imported the settings from. Ie8 is like Ie7 yes but the security reasons are the main reason to update it and as stated in your link it is a headache for web designers to have to keep up with out dated browsers so many just don't and the pages will not render properly on those. you might want to go to IE7 first for a little while then do the move on up to IE8. You should not have any problems with Ie7 it has been around for so long but Ie8 is still fairly new. That is what I would do, it is always better to jump from one level to the next and not skip levels.

Update: more trouble shooting led me to check the DSL speed. The download was about 7 Mbps, and satisfactory but the upload was as low as 80 Kbps - discussing with the Teleco technical support (Century Link) the evening of Thursday last, led to the diagnosis the Telephone modem was malfunctioning, in fact it completely stopped working on the power-down/up test. The CL representative could not provide any access to a replacement modem, but they would ship me one for $15 three days (bet business days, so not until Monday or Tuesday). They could ship overnight for $25. I told them ship 3 day I'm checking with Comcast an may move my service there. I up an running on Comcast at a so-called 105 Mbps which checks out closer to 15 mbps, about the same up/down. Not sure what the 105 Mbps is about. The good news cable, Comcast/Xfinity, was able via over the counter purchase at Walmart of a Cable Modem to put me back in service over my existing TV cable access in a matter of minutes. Down side, we don't want to change our email address. I will check to see how low a price I can get from Century Link and retain my email/ISP account. So far the browser works great.

Great example of the number of ads that appear with out using a browser that has ad block plus. Firefox with ad block plus and easylist is what I use and never see an ad. LOVE IT. Lindakathy I have mine mega zoomed too, have to with my visual problems, but that should not have to be done on a well designed website.

Imagine standing in a garden store, trying to assess which of three different garden hoses of identical physical size and with essentially the same functionality and material you should get. To me, the choice of a browser is a similar choice. They all do the same thing, they all have the same features (more or less), they all work the same way, they all function with the same speed and capability. In use, the differences between one browser and another are mostly imperceptible and irrelevant. What differs between them? Appearance of basic screens. Menu trees. Ease and accessibility of changing settings. Availability and nature of add-ons (though most are frankly not worthwhile to have). In short, superficial things that most users rarely deal with. In use, they are the same. The same. If you don't like one, pick another from among the half-dozen most popular ones. They're all free, easy to use, easy to switch to and easy to switch from.

Sorry, I'm using internet explorer 8, foxsports.com and have no idea what NoScript means? (am a pretty basic computer user lol)

I have no problems viewing http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl with Vista/IE9. Your use of IE 8 makes me think you are using Windows XP. You might want to consider trying another browser to see if your experience improves. Even if you prefer IE, it doesn't hurt and costs you nothing to have another browser installed. In fact, doing so is a safety net in case anything ever goes wrong with IE. My suggestion for a second browser would be Firefox.

I have no problem viewing the site using Vista with IE9, Firefox26, Chrome31, or Opera18. If you are indeed using WinXP -- which will be a source of increasing concern as Microsoft is ending support and security updates for it this coming spring -- it means that you can't update from IE8 to IE9. So, as azinoh suggests, install another browser. Also put in the back of your mind that you should be thinking about getting a new computer if you are still using a WinXP machine. There are many new, inexpensive computers that would make your time online more enjoyable and more trouble-free.

Actually I am still using Windows XP. I bought a new machine with Windows 7 and, honestly, after a whole year, I still hated it and went back to XP. I know I'm going to have to give it up though. I surf, read e-mail and download lots of pictures from my digital camera to My Pictures, then print them and make cards. XP has been so easy for that and Windows 7 took away a lot of the simple steps and ease of printing multiple pictures. Thanks for all of your help ... I'll do what you all suggested. No other site has been a problem - just Fox sports.

Yeah, but fox sports is one of the most important sites we have on the Internet, otherwise how would we know what's going on!!!

I agree! Getting past .. and waiting for ... all those logos to disappear every time I got on Fox so I could keep track of my Seahawks proved I was a real fan!!! Two home play-off games was worth it. Go Hawks!

I just tried it using my XP machine using FF browser. No problem and I didn't see anything that you described....just lots of sports and scores!
